Regina (reginar) Thanks for starting Leea!

Leea My pleasure :)

Yeah, Rose a few of us are doing a read of the first book, Soldiers and this is a place we can talk about it.

You're more than welcome to join us :)

Leea I read the first 2 chapters and it's brutal (using Wendy's word :). I mean these men are harsh and I have a hard time seeing them having a loving relationship.

In chap 2... (view spoiler)

message 5: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Hi Rose, the description of the book is pretty decent and then in the book details is a link to a website where you can download the ebook for free. It is a book about two soldiers on opposite sides of the war, fighting each other and falling in love. It is epic and covers decades, there are four books -- which are three cycles, each one is about 400-600 pages long. Oh ad it is m/m. The authors' blogs have more info too. But we have heard it is a brutal, passionate love story that sort of takes over readers lives. :)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Rose, they are free downloads that you can get from just looking right here on goodreads. Or you can get them from the author's website. I should warn you though, they are very violent and they are M/M.

Leea, they are so brutal! I know that the books span 25 years and the relationship (view spoiler). I'm about 30% in, almost done with chapter 6. (They are looooong chapters!) It doesn't really get much lighter. I don't want to say to much because you aren't as far as I am, but it's definitely crazy to read. Like nothing Ive ever read before but GOOD, like a trainwreck.

message 7: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Rose, the details for the book appear right below the summary. Click on the picture of the first book in Leea's post and that will take you there. :)

Regina (reginar) Rose wrote: "How do I download the ebook from goodreads on here?"

I don't know, I did it from the author's website which is linked to in the details below the summary of the book. :)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) If you click the little link under the book on the goodreads page, in the right corner you'll see 'download ebook'. Try clicking that. I got mine from the authors website too, but it should work that way.

You can't, it is an ebook. There is no audio version.

That's okay. ;)

message 14: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea We've all been there :) Hope you'll join us when you start reading it.

Okay... I was wrong it was the second section in the first Chapter where they first meet. I'm now on chapter 3 (pg 80/646) I will say there was a glitch in the ebook around page 66. It took me back to page 6 then skipped around but I ended up back at page 66. Not sure if that was just my version but I wanted to give my buddys a heads up because I freaked a little. lol!

It's encouraging to hear there is a relationship build out of this 'violence' because these two are so hard and jaged. I can't stop reading because I can't believe this it.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Mine didn't have that glitch, so it must just be your version. That sucks though.

Don't get me wrong, I do not think that this is going to ever be a 'healthy' relationship.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I don't think they have it at the library. I'm pretty sure they're ebooks only.

message 17: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) It was self published Rose, so I am guessing it isn't at the library. Sorry!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) When you click the 'download ebook' option you'll see the pdf file and on the right it'll say 'download'. Click that and save the file to your desktop. Then you should be able to open it right on your computer to read it if you don't have an ereader.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Do you have a pdf reader on your computer? Like Adobe Reader?

message 20: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea I made it to chap 4... I hope to start it tomorrow. I like how each chapter, though long is a glimpse in time.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Someone said that they read choppy, but I read them more like glimpses into their heads and how they think. Like the one word sentences are like how their brains are thinking... does that make sense?

I'm on chapter 8. It's addicting, lol. VERY VERY erotic, but addicting too.

message 22: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea Wow speed reader. haha! I haven't had a chance to read today... maybe later.

I read about (view spoiler)

It's addicting for sure, i'm waiting for it to be erotic :)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm on chapter 11 now, and gosh it is incredible to watch these two slowly... I don't know, I don't want to say fall in love. But it is something to watch it slowly progress from such a violent affair to something that's touching. I can see why so many people love it. I'm addicted.

message 24: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea I can't wait! Still on chap 4... Pg 148/646. It's slow going for some reasson. Lol!

Regina, are you going to join us? or did we forge ahead without you :)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'll admit that the beginning was harder for me. It was so cruel and the writing style took a minute to adjust to. The only reason I jumped so far ahead was I had to ride in the car with my mother for 2 hours, haha. I opted to read rather than talk.

message 26: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea Oh man, 2 hrs in the car with my mom and i'd be reading too. lol! I didn't get to read much more today. I hope i'm not as busy tomorrow.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) My mom would never allow me to check out if I was in the car with her.

I get upset when we're out with my parents and my husband pulls out his phone. I give him this, "oh no you are NOT letting me deal with them by myself" look.

message 28: by Leea (last edited Apr 30, 2012 10:44PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea Hahahaha!! Yeah mine would have to have a 'talk' with me about my rude behavior. I know that look, I give it to my husband often :)

I vented in TPR about her birthday (next monday) and this expensive restaurant she wants to go to. She now doesn't understand why my boys can't go to a fancy dinner where it's $30 for entre not including wine/salad/apps. Plus she hasn't done anything for me for my birthday but i'm suposed to drop everything and cater to her needs. I should be used to this. It's just this year i'm a little hurt.
**Sorry for my rant**

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I have a comment I'd respond with but I don't want to throw it out in a public group. If I remember, I'll mention it in TPR sometime.

message 30: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea gotcha :)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL, well I'm sure she wasn't necessarily happy about it, I guess. I would look up if she said something, and I'll admit it was probably rude. But... it's a preventative measure for both of our sanity. If we talk then we fight, then the ride is torture and we're both angry, lmao. She tells me what I do wrong, or what I need to change, then I get defensive and obstinate. It's best that I keep it toned down. Plus, my mom is so used to me reading like that on long car rides, I've been doing it ever since I could read. We went to breakfast and talked, we walked around Costco and chatted, and I helped her get her milk. It really was for the best. (Plus, that way I wasn't complaining about her AWFUL AWFUL music!)

Leea, it still shocks me sometimes how much our parents sound the same. My mom wouldn't be wanting to go to a $30 restaurant. She'd be complaining that the restaurant I wanted to go to was too 'commercial' or used 'commercial and unethical' ingrediants.

The book is really good, lol. It's breaking my heart! Surprisingly, because I did NOT expect it, Vadim is really breaking my heart!

message 32: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea OMGGGGG! My mom is the same, this place uses local farm raised meat and local ingredients and believe me I love that. My husband is just happy to be off the hook for her birthday. Plus she asked me to invite her friend and my dad (awkward). They've been divorced since I was 4 and I swear those two are sleeping together ** cringe**

I used to confront my mom about what bothered me, now I just roll with it and get out unscathed. I get nothing positive from our relationship, she does not help me with the boys or offer to do anything for me. It's always about her. I sometimes feel she thinks I 'have it easy' staying at home because she had to work. I don't know - nor do I care anymore. lol!

Wendy, my nook broke... My reading has been put on hold till I can get to target and buy a Kindle. Vadim is breaking my heart already. (view spoiler)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It's CRAZY! LOL, my mom would want to go somewhere that used farm rasied meat and local organic ingrediants. And I love that too, but it's always what starts up our arguments because I allow Lex to eat food that's NOT always farm raised.

I actually recently got into a HUGE argument with my husband. (packed bags and everything) because he expected me to go toe to toe with my mom about how she makes me feel, (less of a family member and a disappointment). I refused. I told him that I had been having that argument with my mother for my whole life. And fighting with her about it only ended up with ME feeling WORSE and her still not thinking she was in the wrong. It never helps. I told him that I was done beating my head against that wall and expecting different results (the defininition of insanity, btw), and that my new plan of action with her was to just accept that this was our relationship as it is and never really hope for anything different. If I can find acceptance, maybe I'll find peace. He couldn't understand that.

I think the only differnece is my mom helps with lex. Picks her up from school and watches her.

That stinks!! I can't wait till you get a new one, hahaha. I really need someone to talk about this with. It's really getting to me, I think I'm going to love this book so much. The slow slide into something deeper between these two men is amazing to read, but especially Vadim because (view spoiler). It's beautiful in a bizarre way!

message 34: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea I just got back... got a new Kindle Touch. So excited! I already loaded Special forces (only book on there right now) yay!! My laundry room is a pile of clean clothes that needs to be folded but oh well :)

I can't wait to keep reading. Where are you at now in Soldiers?

I'm so sorry about your mom, honestly i'm in the same boat. I'm sorry you had an argument with your husband about this. My best friend and her husband have the same issue and jim and I have also. It's just more that they want to protect you and take care of you and don't want you hurt. They have the best intentions but sometimes we just need to handle our own problems. My husband just wants to give my mom a piece of his mind and I keep holding him back lol! I'd love to see though :)

I feel like I take every thread and change the subject. haha!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) YAY!! You're a Kindle user just like me! I'm at work and still sitting here nonchalantly reading my book. I'm obsessed, I can't stop reading it.

I'm at chapter 12, it's just gotten so... intense. The way things are developing. From the start of that tea room things just really start to progress, you really see the slow change to their interactions.

Hahaha, your husband sounds like my husband. Jeff is... well a conundrum because he's not really affectionate on a regular basis. He shows his good mood and affection by grabbing my boob when I walk by with a grin on his face, or sticking his finger in my butt when I bend over in his vicinity, lmao. It drives me crazy, but it's cute too. But, when it comes to someone hurting my feelings or upsetting me he really loses it. He can't handle seeing someone hurt me. So, it's really hard to watch what he thinks is me taking it. So he sounds, in that sense, a lot like Jim.

Hey, we created the thread, we can comandeer it if we want to. And we're still talking about the book. :)

message 36: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea My mom and husband have had a rocky start. She never liked him and I didn't care... Jim is way more affectionate than me but he also is a grabber like your man. In mid sentence he's make some crud comment or shove me up against a wall. Men are just strange, lol! It's sweet he wants to defend me but I can handle myself and always have :)

Off to get Garrett from preschool... We're going to a baseball game tonight so it's a 45 min drive, hope to read then.

The book was just starting to get into more their relationship when I dropped my Nook and I couldn't read off it (I almost cried) so I can't wait to start again :)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Can't wait for you to really get into it. Have fun!

message 38: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea It took me that last 20 min to figure out where I left off while reading it on my nook lol!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL!!!! Yeah, well my Kindle doesn't give me a page number for this book. That's why I always say my percentage, hahaha.

message 40: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea I noticed that. It's a 'location' not a page. The screen savers are. It's funny to just have one book on my reader after having so many before. haha! I need my password for the wifi but i'm too lazy to run and dig it out.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Some books will give you a page number, but some don't. I think it's just the way the file is set up. But if it helps, I'm at location 6433, hahahaha.

message 42: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea BTW my mom changed her mind for the 4th time for her birthday dinner. Ugh!! I called my brother and he told me I was a saint for dealing with her... haha! She's nuts!!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) You know what's funny, when a friend of mine got her Kindle she thought that was pages numbers. So she read Poughkeepsie and she said, "Holy crap, this has 9000 pages?! I'll never finish it!" and I of course, died laughing.

message 44: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea Yeah this is 12000 locations... wow!! It's so light and I got a cover but now i'm wondering if I should just get a zip case because I like holding it (kindle).

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL, I have just a purple zip case that I slide it into when I'm not reading. it does well enough.

You ARE a saint for dealing with her, hahaha. (We posted at the same time so I didn't see that before.

message 46: by Regina (last edited May 01, 2012 02:30PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) I didn't get any notifications. First off, sorry with my kids sickness I Haven't read at all and I took on so many damned arcs (when will I learn), but I promise I will dive in soon. I really want to be carried away.

You know what I do to my husband to get revenge for all the grabbing? I will spoiler mark it so I dont' offend (view spoiler) His reaction is so funny and I do it to him when he will be embarrassed and can't react, I know it is mean -- but the guy won't leave me alone! My revenge. :)

I am so sorry about all of your issues with your mother. It sounds very hurtful. It is amazing the effect the mothers have on their childrens lives. < hugs >

message 47: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea It's okay. Poor Wendy is dying... I'm trying to catch up but the next two weeks are brutal. More bdays, anniversaries, and social events to count. It's nuts!

groping Husbands... God love them :) Mines bad and I like to give it back when he leasts expects it. Like (graphic) (view spoiler)

The butt grabbing is bad and now the boys do it to me so Jims stopped. I told you ladies how they smacked my butt at the barber and all these men were staring right at my *ss. Oh, the embarrassment!!!

message 48: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL! That is hilarious about the door and the butt. :)

message 49: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea I put Garrett (aka *ss grabber) on time out right there at the barber with 8 guys staring at me. It was worse than when you're nursing in public and they pop off and milk shoots all over (maybe that was just me) lol!!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I love that your four year old is now nicknamed ass grabber.
