Everyone is aware that Dumbledore possessed the Elder Wand. He was obviously well aware of it's extreme power and long, brutal history. But this arouses a question: Why didn't Dumbledore destroy the Elder Wand?

I'm not sure what Dumbledore was thinking to not destroy the Elder Wand, but knowing him, he has his reasons.

Why do we call him dumbledore? I mean, we could mean Aberforth, or his dad. SOrry, unrelated.

Dumbledore would not think himself worthy of destroying it. It was, afterall, an extraordinary magical artifact, how could you destroy that good a bit of magic? In fact, Dumbledore says in the book that he is only fit to tame it, not to use it for personal gain. Well he did that, so why would he need to destroy it?
