Dang-I cant beleive how the year is moving by so quickly!

We Moderators put a lot of work into trying to lead these discussions, and sometimes it REALLY gets in the way of our own reading list, so...
My innovative idea for this months theme is.....

Mark's Choice!

and he chooses...Stand on Zanzibar!

That will be our themed read, but we wnat to still have a poll and voting on the random read...so please place your nominations for August read here

Thanks, I know you been wanting to read this for a while since you kept on nominating it. I'm just trying to keep up with theme of the month.

Farmer's To Your Scattered Bodies Go. I need to read that this year, and then I can narrow down my choices for when it gets to be my turn!

Robert Kratky (bolorkay) | 41 comments Hi Maggie,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but......
I've been a Science Fiction reader since the late 1960s, early 1970s, I really enjoy Cliff Simak, Arthur C. Clark, and (more recently) Greg Bear. I've often relied on the reviews in LOCUS magazine. (Is LOCUS still being "published" ?) But, I've strayed a bit (focusing more on Fantasy and Horror.. really enjoy Matheson, Wilson and King and the Pendergast novels by Preston and Child)) over the past 15 years or so. Would you have any sugeestions that would help "re-ignite" my passion for Science Fiction, both classic and and more recent?
Thanks,
Bob

Anita (nitata) | 13 comments I really love the cyberpunk genre and need a lame excuse to re-read Vurt by Jeff Noon

Richards nomination sounds great too, so I second Only Forward

message 13: by Jim (new)

Jim I second Vurt.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 372 comments Just too much to read right now already and the only science fiction I'm ready for are later parts of series... so I won't nominate this time.

It's an indie adventure that brings some classic sci-fi themes into a contemporary zombie apocalypse. It's more sci-fi than horror and more about using your brains than eating them. Think Star Trek/Battlestar Galactica meets the Walking Dead. It will be free to download on May 22. I think it's a good read, but I'm a bit biased.

If not, then you can't go wrong with Lucifer's Hammer

W.R.R. Munro (wrrmunro) | 2 comments Hi, I'm new here so please forgive me if you've already done this one but I'd recommend Thirteen. After Altered Carbon, Morgan's books (while still being great fun) were a bit too similar to each other for my taste. Until Thirteen (which sold here in Australia as "Black Man" - no surprise the name was changed in the US). While still a bash-em-up action story, this took Morgan to a whole new (much deeper) level: social commentary which the reader can choose to ignore or to ponder at length. I love book like that.
