I like boundaries for the magic, to stop it being all-powerful. I agree, I've enjoyed magic in books such as LOTR and HP but I like it to be believable.

I use the Enochian language of Dr John Dee in my series (releasing first novel next week). It's a set dictionary or language of sounds, therefore it defines what spells can be worked (sorry, been working on edits all day--having difficulty writing now :) )

I like the sound of that (Khempunk and alchemy). :)

Lynxie I had never heard of khempunk before... I might have to check it out :)

Barbara Tarn (barbaragtarn) After reading Orson Scott Card's book on how to write sci-fi and fantasy, I did make some rules for the magic of my world... Humans don't have any, the Magical Races do! :-D Well, Human can find Dark Magic or be mixed bloods... that's the only way for them to make spells that work! ;-)
But Uncle Orson is right, magic is magic, but it needs rules...

Nishi Serrano (nishiserrano) | 5 comments Magic!--makes me thing of Prachett, I love how he (Terry Prachett)weaves so much comedy along with the magic in his books.

Pratchett is King! His Witches are wonderful too.
