“Get moving!!” came the gruff voice of the slave driver, followed by the crack of a whip.
Tavian tripped as she felt the sting of the whip on her back, but the chain that connected her to the slave line kept her from falling. The manacles connecting her to the chain were chaffing her wrists. Her feet had gone numb from the pain of their march and her hands and knees were torn and bleeding from her many falls. Her body was caked in dirt that had trails of sweat through it and the rags that covered her body looked and smelled like they hadn’t been cleaned in years; they also itched adding to her discomfort.
Tavian stopped walking and glanced at the black chest the slavers carried all of their valuables in. She could see a leg of her apprentice uniform hanging out. It had been taken from her as soon as she had been captured.
“I said get moving, slave!” the slave driver said.
Tavian turned to glare at him and she saw the whip go up. She tried to hold up her arms to block her face but the chain was too short. He was about to hit her when the whip was grabbed by the slave master, a tall thin man with dark blonde hair and a dark disposition.
“You idiot!” he whispered angrily, “Do you even realize what a slave like her could be worth?! She will be worth nothing scarred. Keep away from her.”
He turned and walked toward his wagon with only one backward glance. The slave driver glared at the slave master’s back and hissed. He then turned on Tavian and growled:
“Don’t you expect to be let off easy!” His face only an inch away from hers, “In my mind you are still a worthless creature only fit for slavery.”
“We are both human, so if I’m a ‘worthless creature’ what does that make you?” Tavian replied with an icy glare.
He grabbed her by the arm and threw her toward the other slaves.
“I’m watching you. You will keep in mind to respect your betters!”
He emphasized these words with a jabbing finger. Tavian opened her mouth to reply when she heard a sharp whistle that started the slave line moving.

On our planet we humans tend to believe that we are all powerful. We have the ability to decide who lives and who dies; we even have the ability to destroy the planet on which we live. What we don’t know is that every person on planet earth owes their lives to an unseen outside force called, the Guardians.
The Guardians a race of beings who, until now, have been able to sustain themselves are now in need of help from other races. The universe was ravaged by races of beings that came from beyond the edges of space and the Guardians stepped forward to assume the role of defenders of the universe. They have begun searching the planets for those few who have the ability to grow to the full potential that is essential of all Guardians. There search has led them to planet earth, one of the only planets in the universe that is not aware of their existence.
Slowly over time the race of the Guardians has been dwindling and they don’t have the number of people to guard the universe against all sources of destruction. The edges of the universe have slowly been taken over by outside forces and the Guardians need help in keeping these forces back. Earth has been unaware of the danger lurking in the wide expanses of space and they are one of the only hopes of the Guardians. It is all in the hands of a 17 year old girl.
