YES!! im done - i did 403 words! only 1,832 words needed!! here's my short story ... inspired by one of paige's pictures on "picture prompts":
It was something in her eyes, the way she looked up, straight into the blinding white moon. Longing, maybe. Or hope. The eyeliner for the party was still streaked above her eyes, ruined by her tears. It was obvious she had been crying. But it was over – whatever she had cried about. She had used all her tears. The sadness turned into that expression she wore. She was relaxed, leaning against the white marble statue, her feet crossed. Her skin was pale, her white dress shimmering, blowing slightly in the breeze. Long strings of amber hair climbed up to the moon, but she was the parent, holding them back. She was neither happy nor sad. She was calm. And I realized … it was the moon. The moon shone its light all over her. Tranquility from it swirled around her, patted her shoulder when she cried, stared up at the moon with her. It was her partner, her ally, her friend. I went up and stood by her. She said nothing. The three of us stared up at the moon.
I didn’t quite understand what I was doing. All I wanted to do was comfort her. Finally, a long, visible sigh came from her.
“Johnny,” she said. Then it was a pause. Was she waiting for me to say, ‘yes?’I waited for her to say something. “Johnny …” she said again. “Johnny, go back to the party.”
I paused now. “What?”
“Go back.” She did not look at me, but continued to stare. I stared at her.
“What if I don’t want to?” I blurted.
“Please!”
I looked at her face, pale white yet beautiful. Hadn’t I kept her company? I had felt it to – the tranquility. “What’s your name?”
“Mara. Now leave.”
I procrastinated. “Why are you here?”
She looked at me. I almost fainted. Her eyes penetrated me, seeking something inside me. She was fierce and beautiful. “I am here … because I belong here. Go.”
I didn’t say anything else, and trudged off towards the building. I was on the last step when I heard a bolt of something, and she was gone. “Mara!” I shrieked. “Mara!” Hastily, I leaped down the steps and ran around the statue.
“MARA! MARA!” I stared up at the moon. “What have you done to her?!” It answered, pointing behind me. On top of the white statue horse was Mara, frozen solid. A statue.
