Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Week-long Readathon: May 19th (12 am) thru May 25th (11:59 pm)
Day-long Readathon: May 19th (12 am - 11:59 pm)

Rules:
~Just have fun!

Breaking It Down:
~You can read towards a goal of books, pages, hours, or any combination of the three. Aim for what will help you with challenges, or make a goal that IS a challenge!
~~You can keep track of what you read by writing the exact minutes down on paper, like I do, or you can just estimate from the time you start reading to the time you stop and write that down. Either way is up to you.
~This will be the topic where you can post your reading progress and discuss with others about what they're reading.
~At the end of the day-long readathon, I will have a Summary topic up and running so those of you that only do the Day-long can go ahead and post your summaries.

If you have any questions, ask below!

How does this work exactly for the day-long readathlon as such? Do you just state how many books you want to read and pages in that time or ... I'm a little confused as to the dynamics of it.

message 4: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) The only difference between the day-long readathon and the week-long readathon is the length. For both, you set your goal to whatever you want. It could be a certain number of books or pages, or you could want to read a certain amount of hours. The overall goal of the readathons is to read more than you usually would during that time period.

Yeah, I'm doing #boutofbooks as well :). I have a dress rehearsal Saturday, though, and recital's Sunday. So it won't be the best beginning/ending to readathons for me.

Really hoping to accomplish more this read-a-thon then previous ones.

Today began:
Along with these books (I'd like to read at least another 75 pages in another)

Two Old Women: An Alaska Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival by Velma Wallis
...............143 pages
and
The Nanny Who Kissed Her Boss by Barbara McMahon
...............139 pages

In addition to the above, earlier this week, started listening to:
Books: A Memoir by Larry McMurtry Since this will be completed over the weekend, plan to start the audio version of Barbara Delinsky's .The Real Thing

Boils Down to:
2 books (277 + pages) and 2 audio books

message 14: by Lori (new)

Lori Goldstein In my post above I couldn't figure out how to underline just the words:

Boils Down to:

Would someone please help me how to underline a single line vs. that line and everything below.

use a u in your < symbols bracket at the beginning of what you want underlined, then a /u in the < symbol bracket at the end.

you make a diamond. If you click next to the add book/author where it says (some html is ok) it shows you the html codes for underlining and such.

message 16: by Lori (new)

Lori Goldstein Thanx Jennifer, After a few attempts I figured it out. Assume the same theory works for bolding a single line as well?

Jennifer (ace_librarian) Lori wrote: "Thanx Jennifer, After a few attempts I figured it out. Assume the same theory works for bolding a single line as well?"

yup. just use a b instead of a u =)

message 18: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Well, I finished my first book already-- Hush, Hush (but I'll only get 36 pages for it because that's all I had left). I automatically started Crescendo, and have 155 pages in it so far. Thinking about starting Silence afterwards, but might read Wintergirls first.

message 19: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (ace_librarian) I finished The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms finally this morning! I only had 82 pages left. I started City of Lost Souls this afternoon and I am planning to pretty much read until I finish it today! =)

message 20: by Heather (new)

Heather (nickyblue7) | 486 comments Just finished Another Bad-Dog Book: Tales of Life, Love, and Neurotic Human Behavior which has taken almost a year to read! I feel so accomplished! Gonna go start my next book A Demon Made Me Do It and Zakiya if you read Wintergirls let me know cause I loved it!

message 21: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (shorty_320) | 138 comments Just finished my first of the readathon! I read Truly, Madly for 305 pages and really enjoyed it! I'm now debating between How I Found the Perfect Dress or rereading Fables, Vol. 1: Legends in Exile. Decisions, decisions!

message 22: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) So I've discovered that either a) GoodReads fixed itself or b) my laptop is mad at GRs for whatever reason.

Almost finished with Crescendo, which will be my second book for the RAT. Very impressed with myself, being that I had dress rehearsal today. Hopefully recital tmr won't get in the way too much!

message 23: by Anne (Booklady) (last edited May 19, 2012 07:53PM) (new)

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) I am not feeling well today, so I didn't get much reading done since 12:01am.

I started The Drop by *Michael Connelly and read off and on since the start time. It was about 5.5 hours. I read only 207 Pages today.

I decided to only do the week-long readathon, since I was feeling puny today. And I'm revising my goal: 3 or 4 books 1100 Pages.

message 24: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) I hope you get better soon, Anne!

message 25: by Lori (new)

Lori Goldstein Glad to hear you got some reading done. Have some chicken soup and "call me in the morning".

Your Southern CA Jewish Mother. LOL

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) @Zakiya
@Lori
LOL, Lori! Thank you both for the well wishes. I've caught the Flu bug from my handsome neighbor. Am reading some and eating some Pasta Fujole Soup. I'll be back later to post my reading update. :)

message 27: by Anne (Booklady) (new)

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) I only read for about 3 1/2 hours and my page count was 142. Most of the day was spent in bed with the flu. Am feeling better so I hope to read more tomorrow and finish The Drop and start Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins .

message 28: by Zakiya (last edited May 21, 2012 12:44PM) (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Finished my second book, Crescendo. In the middle of Silence right now.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo)

I finished The Drop (Harry Bosch, #15) by Michael Connelly and started The Guns of Navarone by Alistair MacLean. It is not the book I wanted to read next, but it pretty good. LOL, Navarone was the closest book - on the table beside my bed. I moved my next book there, since the flu bug is still with me.

I read 210 Pages in 5 1/2 hours.

message 30: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (ace_librarian) I read zero today. I kind of got really distrated by season 1 of Vampire Diaries. I'm going to try and read some tomorrow. =)

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) I read 199 pages in about 4.5 hours Tuesday. I'm feeling a little better - hope I can read more tomorrow.

message 40: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Heather, I finished Wintergirls. It was good for the most part. 4-1/2 stars. I would've given it the other half a star, but it kind of made me depressed while I read it. However, for the purpose it was written, it was amazing.

message 41: by Anne (Booklady) (new)

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo)

I finished The Guns of Navarone by Alistair MacLean today (40 Pages)and reviewed it. I started Missing Mom (57 Pages) by Joyce Carol Oates and Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins (45 Pages). I have completed 2 Books and have read 798 Pages so far in the challenge.

message 42: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (ace_librarian) I am being a horrible reader. I have read a grand total of 12 pages in the past 3 days. Oops.

But I have watched 1.5 seasons of The Vampire Diaries. =)

Needless to say, I will probably not come anywhere CLOSE to reaching my goals.

message 43: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) LOL! It's okay Jennifer! We all have those readathons :D.

message 44: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) I'm about 100 pages from the ending of When the Black Girl Sings by Bil Wright . Mom took me to the library yesterday and I got 5 new books. Wooh! :)
