I'm not a member of many groups on GR so hopefully being in this one isn't going to become some new procrastination technique for when I should be writing myself.

Hi, Thank you for including me.

My name is Dixie and I'm a serious book addict with no plans for recovery. My husband and I divide our time between Texas and Maine (which means the item we want is always 2,000 miles away). With e-readers, though, we're never without books. I've read many a cereal box at the breakfast table if nothing else was available.

Last two faves wereBlue Asylum and An Unexpected Guest.

If you want to know more about me, I'm on the web at www.dixieswanson.com.

Since this club is about deals and freebies, I can create a big discount code for my first book, but only if it isn't against the rules.

Happy pages to all...Dixie

message 17: by Julia (new)

Right now I'm reading Morning Glory by LaVyrle Spencer and 1st Grave On The Right by Darynda Jones.

I am looking for some new authors to read so am always open to recommendations.

I've written The Accidental President Trilogy: A Political Fable for Our Time. www.dixieswanson.com

The first book, The Accidental Senator is a fast, fun summer read with a 4+ star rating on Goodreads. It's a chick book that guys like, and the series is addictive.

I'll give members of the club 40% off print versions on The Accidental Senator for the next two weeks.

To qualify, just email me: dixie@dixieswanson.com, identify yourself as a member of this club and I'll send you a discount code to use on the website for print versions shipped in the US and Canada.

(Sorry, I cannot arrange to discount Kindle or Nook editions or Amazon books sold in Europe or Great Britain. If I could, I would.)

If you like it, tell everyone. If you don't, just tell me, okay?

Thanks Dixie,
You have inspired me to set up an author's corner so we can learn about new authors and their latest books/book deals. Thanks for offering this to the members of Readers Delight and good luck with your book.

Mark Souza | 13 comments Hi all. I'm glad to be a member of the lucky 39. I am a reader and author from the Evergreen State. My debut novel Robyn's Egg will come out on the 23rd of this month. On the 24th it will be free for a day on Amazon which is what this group is all about.

message 23: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Metz I'm a book addict with no plans of changing. I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 2500 books (not counting Kindle). I would know exactly but I had a glitch and lost my database holding all that data -- and it was after I had updated the program so my backup didn't work. Now I have to go through and manually enter them all again.

I read a little bit of everything. I am also a writer. I have health problems that slow me down but also have taught me a great deal of compassion. I look forward to getting to know you all better.

Dixie wrote: "What is urban fiction? I'm not familiar with that genre, but then again, book genres have become so diverse..."

Thats a great question Dixie... Urban fiction is much more the setting than anything like the book taking place in a not so good enviornment, people having to grow up faster due to their enviornment, the books have a lot more violence and drama, all books characterized as Urban lit is not the same though. Im sure I could give you a few books to try reading that you actually may enjoy.

I hope I explained that well bascially urban from its setting and the author doesnt leave anything out they are honest about the drama, violence, sex, drugs has some of everything in it i Guess

Okay. Have you read any of the Cara Black mysteries set in Paris?
Murder in the Marais

I think that might qualify.

What book would YOU recommend I try? Thanks. Dixie

Hi Dianne, I too start my day with books. This is something of a change for me, as I used to read the newspaper. Books, I find, give me a more centered feeling to the day. I still keep up with the news (even to having a (hopefully) witty blog about news) on my website, www.dixieswanson.com.

An hour of reading is like a hour of meditation for me.

What are YOU reading now, Dianne? I am reading In The Country of The Pointed Firs by Sarah Orne Jewett, a classic about Maine where we are right now.

Dianne The House of Velvet and Glass This was a library loan and had to go back yesterday (4th on waiting list) Normally I would just buy it but it has been like a roller coaster ride reading it

A Breath of Snow and Ashes big outlander fan

and I am trying a YA over the weekend Austenland My granddaughter is with me this week so I wanted something real easy

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks. I'll download it.

How old is your granddaughter? I'm envious -- we have five grandsons (and probably no more grandkids coming). I want a granddaughter! Oh well, happiness is wanting what you have, not getting what you want.

Magpie67 | 20 comments Hello, my name is Dena aka magpie67. I am married, have two kids, two dogs... now, RIP Kes, a tank full of fish, a local book club and a weekly article for the local newspaper I work for and I'm active in my kids' sports.

I love to read! I have my book club and I joined another book club at another library. I will try to stay pretty active here.... but I have a room for my club too and a few others. :o) I seem to have the max amount of books checked out at two libraries all the time, I purchase books and I read my kindle (some bought, many that are free). Basically I lose sleep trying to read all of these books. Or maybe I don't sleep much.... Made my living room into a library of sorts... a work in progress. :o)

Look forward to chatting with everyone.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Dena, you sound just like my kind of person! So many books, so little time. I am an admitted bookaholic with no intent of recovering.

Best two books I've read recently are Blue Asylum and An Unexpected Guest. The first approaches literature status (without being "literary" fiction.

What about YOU? What are your last two faves?

Dixie

Good move. Going through life with a "southern" name can be a problem. But I had aunts named Era, Comie, Alma, etc, an uncle named Exum, Dixie was a step up...

I think we are called Bibliophiles..... LOL!!! No chance of recovery in sight.

my last two favs, super glad that I read them..... Sarah's Key and Still Alice My fav genre is mystery so I anything I read in that catagory is my fav!

My last two YA titles on my fav list are: The Hunger Games and Need

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Loved Sarah's Key, but didn't like second novel as you know the plot twist in 5 seconds if you've read Sarah's Key.

In mysteries, I like Jacqueline Winspear, Deborah Crombie, Donna Leon and William Been. All do serial novels and you can't read them out of sequence.

My fave YA is The Book Thief 5 Stars. Also Number the Stars by Lois Lowry.

My name is Susan, I live in upstate New York. I'm a married mother of two college students. We have two dogs, Abby and Zoey, and one cat named Mitzy.
If I had to pick my favorite genre I guess I would say medical/thrillers. But I will read anything as long as it has a good story line.

Hi Michael -- where in Asia did you live? Our daughter lived in Singapore for 12 years and loved all her Asian travels.

Why are all calico cats female?

I will definitely check out your website -- I have a third book due out in November and on the first two, no one person seemed to catch everything in the copy editing phase.

Best stop socializing and get to work!

I just found this site and I'm very happy to be here! Ever since Nancy Drew got me hooked oh so many years ago, I can usually be found somewhere with my nose buried in a book or pressed against my Kindle. LOL - Darn trifocals drive me crazy!

I'm writer also. My debut novel, Mumma Shana, is currently available on Amazon for Kindle. I would be honored if you would check it out. :-)

Hoping to make lots of friends here so please feel free to add me!

I just signed up to this group. And what an awesome group it is - there are some great discussions here. I can't wait to join in and follow some of these threads.

I'm a reader first and a newbie author second. I blog reviews for indies - thrillers and YA mostly - and work in a library. Is there anything else I should add? Glad to meet you all!

Kristine (kristinekae) Hello all. I am Kristine and I live in Utah, married, three kids and work in the Early Childhood Education field. I too am an avid reader and am thankful for goodreads, otherwise I would continue to drive my coworkers insane with my continual discussions of the book I am reading.
I have expanded my choices of genres after joining goodreads but am impartial to historical fiction.

message 49: by Lori (new)

Lori Goldstein Hi, My name is Lori and I'm a native Southern Californian still living in the Los Angeles area where I grew up. Good Reads and their groups have helped me to find books I wouldn't otherwise know about as well as meet GREAT people.

The book varieties I enjoy most are Historical, Chick Lit, Biography/Memoirs/Autobiographies and Broadway related materials.

*Suzy (ereaderuser)* (suzyereaderuser) Hi everyone. I'm Suzy from Southern California. I'm married with two kids, 28 & 23. I love reading, gardening, jigsaw puzzles and raising exotic finches.

I'm a Goodreads addict! LOL! I usually read dystopian, apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic, and zombie novels. I'll also throw in a good mystery-crime thriller once in awhile. About the only thing I can't read are historical romances.
