Short stories by M D Vasudevan Nair like oppol and kuttiyedathi and oru pirannalinte orma have all touched ma heart.
MT's mastery over the craft of short story is overwhelming..."Sherlock" is one of his finest works!I have found Sarah Joseph's, "Alahayude Penmakkal" a delightful read!...In fact, I have been fascinated by her writings!
Anoop wrote: "Have you read his Story Sherlock? -a different one"

No, Sherlock is a cat...with the most piercing stare

IT was a sory about a CAT...
Please read my comment sent to Sujatha..and read Uroob's short stories..they have depth and variety more than MT's.
Jayaram wrote: "Please read my comment sent to Sujatha..and read Uroob's short stories..they have depth and variety more than MT's."I couldnt help laughing out loud at your comment in malayalam on MT's Books . Since i havent read any of uroob's works cant say much. I have been born and bought up outside kerala so my knowledge about Malayalam books is pretty limited .So with my minimal knowledge i just feel that MT's works lies in its character's which just stay with you long after the books are done with. In Life too ambigousness is what persists and MT seems to have captured this essence in his books. Once again its my personal choice and its a free country after all...:)
Sorry, I was just expressing my candid opinion..there's nothing personal in it..You will understand it if you read at least 10 stories by Uroob

If you are ready to enjoy humour with an open mind (sorry...only open-minded people can have a good sense of humour)PAYYAN KATHAKAL by VKN and ORU NASRANI YUVAVUM GOWLISASTRAVUM (BOOK)by SAKARIYA are must-reads for any Malayali...and to qualify to be a Malayali the first book you should read is AYTHIHYAMALA by KOTTARATHIL SANKUNNI
I am recommending short stories of subhash chandran(writer of new generation ):Thalpam
Parudeesanashtam
Khadikarangal Nilaykunna Samayam.
Yes, Subhash Chandran's novel, "Manushyanu oru Aamukham" is also a worthy read.Of the recent Malayalam reads, here are a few I enjoyed:
* "Aadu Jeevitham" by Benyamin
* "Palerimanikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakkam" by T P Rajeevan
* "Francis Ittikora" by T D Ramakrishnan
For an ignoramus like me, the information about new writers was quite helpful. Thank you Anoop and Sunitha
Sree wrote: "Try to read Benyamin new novel manja veyil maranangal i feel it' good"I own a copy and have it in my to-read list! Will get to it soon!

Libin wrote: "Chidambara Smaranakal by Balachandran Chullikkad. One of my ever favorite Malayalam books."Read the book some time back.My impressions about the guy seriously suffered after that.
I recently read a shortstory collection of CV Sreeraman, which included stories like Ponthanmada and sheemathampuran, Vasthuhara, Chidambaram. Liked most of the stories, they all are related to some sort of spiritual nomadism, quite interospective.
Sherin wrote: "If that's ur own copy,plz lend madi.. :)"Sure!
Just wondering, if there are sufficient people active in this group, why not have occassional group reads?

By M.T. Vasudhevan Nair . ?
I recommend"Marubhoomikal Undakunnath" , " Apaharikkappetta Dhaivangal" by Anand . .
Poems of K G Sankarappilla
"Ente priyappetta Kathakal"- N S Madhavan . . . .
You will love Anand's works if you love 'language' more than the story . . .
