Harvey | 10 comments Excellent! Very valuable, I shall certainly look and brush up! Too few people have the chance at school these days, sadly.

Owen (RoxiesGrandad) | 24 comments Sadly, you are correct. The thought that I find so distressing is the number of people denied the pleasure of Virgil, Horace and so many Roman writers in the original language rather than in translation. I particularly loved some of Horace's rollicking humour in his Odes and Satires, and the fabulous epic Aeneid. Maecenas certainly gave the world a treasure when he adopted Horace into his circle and gave him his inspiring Fons Bandusiae.

English (english_lady) | 5 comments I'm learning Latin next year at Uni (I study Medieval History) I think the 3rd year is a little late though. Wish I could have learned it years ago.

Katie (katie1421) Latin is loads of fun! And what they tell you about its usefulness when learning other languages is all true.

If anyone is interested in learning Latin on their own, without benefit of a school/university course, I definitely recommend Learn To Read Latin: Textbook And Workbook Set by Keller & Russel. It's an excellent overview of the language and the workbook is absolutely great (and if you email Yale University Press, they'll share the answer key so that you can check your own work as you go).
