L Do you have a favourite Sherlock Holmes amongst the Victorian and modern 21st century adaptations of Arthur Conan Doyal's classic? Jeremy Brett perhaps with his elderly, good natured Dr. Watson and the ivory pipe & deer stalker? or the modern Benedict Cumberbatch with Martin Freeman as his sidekick from Afganistan's front line?
I love the *new* Sherlock and the BBC's modern classic with a twist, hence here is a fans apreciation page to all things Holmes & Watson!!

message 4: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey I love the Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey Jr. To me the second one was better than the first.

message 5: by L (new)

L The movies were great and for years there were loads of Victorian series on television, with Jeremy Brett taking up the role each season. x

message 6: by L (new)

L You should! x

message 7: by L (new)

L Now is the time for a *new* case to solve and to use the Science of deduction in cracking the code and uncovering the hidden secrets within the mystery. Have a go at these Sherlock questions and see what you can descover...

1).What was the name of the landlady of 221b Baker Street?
2).Where did Sherlock Holmes keep his tobacco?
3).What was the curious incident of the dog in the night?
4). Who was described as 'The Napoleon of Crime'?
5).What was the name of the woman who outwitted Mr Sherlock Holmes?
6).Which one of these articles would most likely have belonged to Dr Watson?
a: a wrist watch
b: a persian slipper
c: a stethoscope
How did you do??

Maria (mariakelly) | 16 comments Jeremy Brett was always 'my' Sherlock and for classic Victorian set stories I don't think he can be beaten. However I absolutely love the new series with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, the whole thing, script, production, acting was superb.
I'm afraid I don't know if the huge crush I have is actually on Sherlock or Benedict or both! Desperately waiting for the next series now!

*laughing and blushing at the same time* i would have to completely agree with you! (and also in regards to Jeremy Brett who i could watch time & time again. If someone said 'Sherlock Holmes' to me i would immediately think of this actor).

Anna (SylviaGrant) | 47 comments *squeals* I can't wait UNTIL THE NEW SERIES COMES OUT!!!! I'LL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING MARTIN OVER BENEDICK BECAUSE I JUST DON'T LIKE HIM THAT MUCH.

message 15: by L (new)

L When is the new series coming up (christmas time or before)?? I cannot wait either!

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I love the BBC Sherlock! Benedict Cumberbatch is the best Sherlock EVER. Robert Downing Jr. should stick to Iron Man.
And I'm sooooo excited to see Watson in the Hobbit!

message 17: by L (new)

L I also am a huge Cumberbatch fan & lOVE the BBC series of Sherlock, which is SO amazing!! Doctor Watson as Bilbo Baggins...mmm, that may be interesting.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Have you seen Warhorse? Cumberbatch did NOT have a big enough part in that.

L Catalina *The Cat Herself* wrote: "Have you seen Warhorse? Cumberbatch did NOT have a big enough part in that."

*crying* no, i have not seen it as yet! I am a horse rider and Cumberbatch fan, hence i am still moping around moaning that i want to see it. On the adverts though it doesn't look like he has a particularly big part in it :(

L That incident with Moriarty by the pool was so tense, i nearly fell off my seat! Sherlock is an amazing series. x

message 24: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 57 comments It actually was funny in a way. I absolutely LOVE Sherlock Holmes BBC. My cousin and I watch that show together when I visit her in Raleigh, NC.

message 25: by F.J. (new)

F.J. Hansen (fjhansen) | 11 comments I've been watching the old Sherlock Holmes movies with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. They're really good, even if most of them bring the characters forward to then-contemporary times. World War II was the focus of everyone's minds, after all.

message 26: by L (new)

L I have seen so many victorian versions of Sherlock, especially a lot of ones with Jeremy Bret in. Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce too, but my favourite is still the modern version as i supose one can relate to it more.

message 27: by Maria (new)

Maria (mariakelly) | 16 comments Just watched 'Game of Shadows' for the second time and yes I still think it's awesome. Love Robert Downey Junior and Jude Law. Love the humour and thought the ending was fantastic and hilarious.

message 28: by Kim (new)

Kim | 1 comments I Hope there gonna be more new Sherlock, especially after the way it ended

You mean the movie? If so, it says Sherlock 3 is suppose to be out 2014.

message 30: by Stan (new)

Stan Morris (morriss003) The BBC presentation of Sherlock Holmes is one of the best I've ever seen, and the writing is incredible.

L Stan wrote: "The BBC presentation of Sherlock Holmes is one of the best I've ever seen, and the writing is incredible."

I couldn't agree more! The Sherlock films are good also, but certainly not on the same level as the new BBC adaptation- it is amazing!

message 32: by Zohal (last edited Oct 17, 2012 12:59AM) (new)

Zohal | 62 comments I have only just started watching Sherlock (BBC). I've seen the first episode. And am going to watch an episode a day. The episodes are quite long. Sherlock Holmes in the BBC Adaptation reminds me of The Doctor for some strange reason.

I was also extremely excited when I saw the credits and realised that the series was created by Steven Moffat and some other guy (No wonder why it is so good) Can't wait to watch the rest ! Then I will start watching Once Upon a time, Merlin, Vampire Diaries and I plan on finishing Pretty Little liars soon as I only just finished the first season.

As you can see I love my tv shows just as much as my books.

message 33: by Michael (last edited Oct 17, 2012 10:44AM) (new)

Michael The "other guy" who writes Sherlock is Mark Gatiss, who also plays Mycroft in the series.

Mark is one of those very annoying people who seem to be incredibly talented at everything they do. Comedian: The League of Gentlemen & Spaced; Actor: Mycroft (of course), but also Professor Lazarus in Doctor Who, Patterson in the Quatermass Experiment, Professor Cavor in The First Men in the Moon; loads of other stuff! Writer: you can find his books on Goodreads. And from his interviews he seems to be a really nice guy, too. Sickening!!

:) Mark Gatiss is increadible. If you ever read any of the new copies of the Sherlock books (like a study in scarlet or the adventures of sherlock holmes) then i would recomend reading his introduction, as it is very good.

Renate Woohoo series 3, episode 1 will be broadcast 1 january. What a way to start 2014! :D Though I wouldn't have mind to spend Christmas 2013 with Sherlock... So excited!

Lauren Stoolfire My two favorites are Jeremy Brett and Benedict Cumberbatch. I can't wait until season 3 premiers in 11 days!
