Taylor | 3 comments This one's been sitting on my shelf for almost four years now. I borrowed it from a friend, intended on reading it right away, and now I am finally starting it up. I'm about 1/4 of the way through at the moment and I'm trying to justify why in the world I waited so long to start it. It's pretty darn awesome so far!
What's the longest something sat on your shelf before you picked it up?

Darcy (drokka) I have a book that I purchased in 1988 that I still haven't read. Until about 6 years ago I thought it was the 2nd book in a series. Now that I know it's not, I just haven't had the time or the inclination to pick it up.

April | 570 comments Well...on my dusty shelf, The Sword of Shannara has been on my list since I was a teen-ager! . . and that was ALOT of years ago! I'm not sure WHY. I know when I get to it, I'm going to love it...it's right up my alley . . . I guess it's just that 700 pages seems awful daunting...it did 20 years ago, and now even more so now that I've got kids..and can't seem to stay awake past 11 (even if it's the best book ever!:) {but, I figure if I could make it through Atlas Shrugged...I can totally get through this one!:) So..hoping to get to it this summer!

Stefan Yates (stefan31) | 137 comments Excellent choice, April! I read the original trilogy many years ago and loved them. I'm actually planning on reading them again soon myself.

Razmatus | 89 comments there are couple thick ones there that I havent read before... but now that I am kinda used to reading thick tomes, that might change :P

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) I've had And Ladies of the Club on my tbr since it was published in 1984...

Taylor | 3 comments It's so crazy to me that you guys have had books on your shelf collecting dust for longer than I've been alive! And I thought four years was a long time for something to go unread. :P

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) So Taylor ... I just noticed that the top of this thread says "This topic is about The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America

Did you want to discuss that book? I read it several years ago, but I thought it was great.

Taylor | 3 comments I'm about 3/4 through it and I very much enjoy the book so far.

What'd you like about it?

Taylor - I hope it's okay that I changed the title of this discussion to Devil in the White City so people won't get confused.

I think I saw some author talking about this book and how good it is. I think I might read this one if you guys say it's good :)

Just started reading this this morning as I finished my holiday read today so was looking for something else to read, and my mum had finished this t'other day.

Really interesting read so far. I love how the two main characters are written and it's all based on a lot of facts and evidence from the time (although some of the own author's conjectures and assumptions about certain things which no-one could ever know do seem out of place and annoying - but maybe that's just me).

Beth (techeditor) | 14 comments You borrowed the book from a friend, and you've had it for four years? Is that person still your friend? Has that person ever loaned you another book?

Jessica T. (jessicaola) | 79 comments I adore this book.. and give it to fellow nerds who haven't read it!!!
