Beg, Buy or Borrow?

YES!!!!! I am proud to say I beg for books. =P If I see a book I want and my friend owns it, I nag until they give it to me. I even did some sexual favors in exchange of books. I am serious! I also beg from authors in exchange of reviewing them, which I actually do faithfully. I never ask for a book I am not going to review.
If it's a favorite Author I buy, I haunt used book stores because I just love the thrill of finding the unusual, some friends and I share through kindle, and I of course love the library.
I live in a small town and our library is fairly small but has a great selection. However, I've found that I usually purchase books for my Kindle. Especially if they are cheap or by a favorite author. Sometimes I order used books from Amazon also.
I don't lend books any more since people don't return them and it really bothers me. But if someone expresses an interest in a book, I will almost always buy it for them as a gift. Today, though, things are different since most of my books are on my I PAD.
I get most of my books from the library, but I do buy some books on impulse as well. After I have read a book, I almost always give it to friends. I figure, if I have read it already, why not share it with someone else? I still have a good amount on my shelves.
i like to buy books. the smell of new books just excite me. :) i never get any books as a gift before. though it would be nice if someone is kind enough to buy me one.
I mostly borrow books from the library, but I usually ask for books as gifts at Christmas and for my birthday, and occasionally, I'll buy books for myself. I'm usually tight on money though, so I mostly borrow from the library.I do try to support my favorite authors by buying their books, though.
I borrow from the public library in my town and the one in the town where I work. I also borrow from my sister & from my step-daughter. When I have $$ I like to buy from used bookstores, and I have bought books as gifts. In some cases have given away my copy of a special book and then bought a replacement. And then there's amazon.com......(don't you just love coming in from work to find a smiling box on your doorstep?? And new books in the box...)
I buy way too many books, seldom ever at full price, usually either from the used bookstore, Goodwill or Amazon. I now have loads of unread books. But, I found a nice solution to that. I've started decorating my livingroom with them. And, just in case I ever get stuck in my livingroom and have no way out for an extended period of time, at least I'll have plenty of entertainment. :) I do borrow from the library as well. Usually just my book club books and my audio books, though.
I love buying books. My favorite place to buy is Half Price Books. I love getting new, just published books for half price of retail. But I especially love searching through their clearance section for books for $1-$3 each. I love the thrill of the hunt for the books I am currently looking for.
Most of the time I borrow books fro my friend if there is none in the library but I love going to the bookshop either to check out the new books or buy those at a discounted price.
I buy -- WAYY too much. Whether its Kindle or bound, its usually bought. I do borrow a few books from both libraries and friends. I beg for one or two for my bday/Xmas, but I don't really ask for a lot of books anymore.
Some books are exceptionally personal objects that become part of our lives. I have a copy of Palgraves Golden Treasury of verse that I can't imagine being without. I think I bought it when I was 18. I actually have two four leaf clover leaves in it. I found them both at the same time. In fact I am going to open that book now and touch one of those leaves in the hope, crazy I admit, that it might bring me one more ebook sale before this month is out! I wld fight with extreme violcne if anyone tried to steal that book from me. Some books are more than books. Alas, I can't imagine we will ever feel that way about ebooks. Though who knows? Perhaps we will be able to lodge them inside our brains in the not too distant future in which case books really will become a part of us. RonAskew athor
I am a borrower but also a hoarder! I tend to borrow (lack of funding) though at those special times of year I may comprise a list for the parentals to buy from. I buy books from charity shops too and can't help myself as they are so inexpensive. I am a member of bookcrossing too and have quite a lot of books right now from them, I do feel a bit sad about having to pass them on to others though...
I am afraid I am a hoarder so like to own them. However as mentioned on another thread, I am running out of space so moved to a kindle for most of my newer stuff.I used to borrow from the library when younger and still do rarely. I also take donations as my family know, so they often send me piles of their old books. :)
I guess one thing I do do with buying anything is impulse buy from time to time. I'll be like: I want to own a book and I have money so let's buy that one!
I actually know someone who impulse bought a shop once.
I actually know someone who impulse bought a shop once.
I do all of them. I beg, I borrow and I buy, but it depends on what book it is. I also let people borrow mine, but I always know who has what because I get really attached to my books
I go to good will a lot but I do buy some new book if I'm collecting them I also get them on my kindle.though my favorit is good will makes me feel green
Charity shops are fab for a bargain book, though the select few where I live (there are quite a lot of charity shops) are way too expensive for used items. For example a copy of Love Letterswhich wasn't in the best condition and paperback was £3! Maybe I am just tight but that is really expensive to me.
I love buying new books ... but I'm not averse to buying them at Goodwill or Half Price Books. Hey, a bargain is a bargain. I was given a Kindle, but my husband took it over, so I bought a Nook ... what's a girl to do? As long as it is something to read, it can come in any size or shape.
I do buy a lot of books but right now there isn't any room to I switched to E-books , mostly I find them free and since where I live I have to spend a lot of time going to the public library or the book store for that matter , E-Books are easier , although if I read something really amazing I make sure to find a copy of that .
Library and buy. :P My library card is ALWAYS in my pocket, and I have my Nook that I like to buy on a lot. (:
Library and buy ... and I have been given a few books, but I think it is me that is the one that does most of the book-giving. After I've read a book, I almost always give it away to share what I've read
I usually buy my books second hand, most in great shape, and I've not read one I didn't at least like reading. I've not been to the libary in awhile, and I've no friends to beg from. I donate quite a few books. Some I will never part with.
I borrow the majority of my books from the library, supplementing my reads by begging for gift cards to Barnes and Noble for my nook. Also, I work for a newspaper, so we get a TON of early release books for the review section, and the editors just leave them out for us to pick up for free after they've read them (or before, if they just can't get to them.)
I do all three! If I want a book bad enough I buy it. If I don't have the moneyto get it or I cant get it from the library then I will beg friends.
I buy books new and used and I borrow from my two local libraries, one in Dorset and one in Somerset!
I love to buy books, but the smell of old books just keeps me from buying new ones and I always end up in the used books sector.
Borrow from the library. I only buy books by authors I know I will want to read more than once. I couldn't afford to buy all the books I read.
Although I do go to the library for books I'm reading for a book club that I haven't read or really heard of. If I do really enjoy it though, I usually end up buying it.
I try to mainly borrow books from the two libraris that I am a member of. I also go to used bookstores and the big booksale that the library has every year. I have not bought a brand new book in probably a couple years. I also borrow library book for my kindle which is really nice because I live about 25 miles from each of the libraries that I use.
I tend to buy and if it's a lend me title then I let my friends borrow from me however if someone has a book I'd like to read and they don't mind I borrow! Speaking of begging though, if anyone has Consequences or Losing it I'd love to borrow! lol Seriously if you have a nook and want to take a look at what I have my email is marybellabeth@gmail.com
Borrow! Always borrow. I'm a student so I have no money! I LOVE the library, it's my favourite place in the whole world! I borrow from friends, library and any free ebooks (why buy when there are thousands for free?!).I love second hand bookstores and always try to find old copies of classics if my parents will buy them for me! :)
Sadly (for my wallet), I usually buy. When I see a book I really want to read, I just have to own it. Occasionally I borrow, but I find myself getting frustrated over the inevitable due date when my book will go away.
http://bookmooch.com/I get some books from here- also list books here but most available books aren't current. Wondering if there is anything we can start similar? I love trading books but only in the UK as it's too expensive to ship otherwise.
I do all three. Beg- Ask for them as gifts since they are easy.
Buy- When I just can't wait.
Borrow- If I can borrow a book I'm not sure about I do.
All three for me too. I go to the library nearly every week with my daughter, so it's too tempting not too pick something up for myself :)I had a kindle bought for me not long ago, but still buy paper/hard backs; I like to read in the bath!

I myself tend to borrow books that look interesting from the three library corporations I'm part of. Then if I love the book I may buy it or ask for it as a gift. Or if I love the series/author from past experience that may be another reason to buy. Other reasons I may have to buy include if I want a fancier looking edition of a book. For instance I bought the full Sherlock Holmes in a leather cover.
