This chapter was amazing, I like very much :$
First, I’m happy with the attitude of Tom, he help Lucy, no matter what his master is going to say, or his going to do to him. I’m going to be more repetitive if I say ‘Tom is a good man again, but that is true, ok, every people know that. He’s going to give all things for his parnet, and he prefers the dead, if he can’t help everyone, that is excellent. In our time, it’s difficult we find ONE person who has the disposition of help him /her parnet and less to people who are unknown, ‘that isn’t good, but is true’ ):
Legree is a bad man, well, I think that, how? He can’t do that, I think he’s going to do Tom’s life very boring and bad, he’s going to do all things for Tom be unhappy, only because Tom isn’t the same of him. And Tom doesn’t do the bad things for his parnet. Ex: Legree want Tom punish his parnet, and because he doesn’t do that, he was punished, and mistreated. But he never miss the hope, he has faith :)

Chapter 15 was exciting, I really like Tom`s attitude, he never change his mind of not to do the bad things, he is always thinking in the poor people and helping them without matter what would happen to him if he do that.
I didn`t like what Legrees did to Tom, he hit Tom, he is treating very bad Tom, only because he doesn`t like Tom, or just because Tom is a good man. Tom is suffering a lot.
Cassy, I think she`s a good woman, I think, she demonstrated that she has a good heart helping Tom and advising him about Legree. I like her apparition in the story.

To know the situation about the people who lived as a slaves, working hard everyday and also treated very badly, it is not a happy feeling for me, but I like it because it teach us many things that maybe we never thought that somebody passed or is passing by something like that.
I hope Tom`s situation will change soon!

Ok, this chapter shows many feelings, the brave and solidarity of Tom, is admirable for me because he confronted his master right to the end, I think God in all moment was with him and he received his wisdom and that is the part that I like.
I found many bad situations in this chapter one was when Legree hit Lucy because she didn´t bring enough cotton, that made me feel sad because I imagine the terrible scene, the time of the slaves were very sad, they suffered all kind of abuses but they continued…I think that situation happen up to now but in different ways, for example: in some works isn´t recognize the value of work, the company or the boss don´t want to pay the just to the person who work, that is bad because each person who work deserve moreover of the salary ,the good treat, but unfortunately they don´t do.
The negative was Legree´s attitude, he was though that he was the strongest there, and all problem could be resolved with the violence, we know with violence not resolve nothing, this bad action only complicate the situation, the best way is talking with calm, and treat to get an accord..
I hope tom´s situation change and he continue with his attitude …

I agree with you Cristina is really difficult and more in our time because the confidence is the point, we want to help other people but if you don´t know the person that is the problem, because there are many kind of people who have good and bad intentions, I wander what we going to do with this situation? I think we can help, but also we have to take care…

I agree with you Rosana!, that happen a lot in our country now, and the people who works are the same of the slaves, isn't by the economic condition, only because they're being exploited, Ex: They have to work '8hrs', in many companies they don't pay the enough money for the workers.

Yes Rosana, we have to try help the others people, for give the example to others people, for they try to copy that good thing. So, we're the Hope of the world, right?

I think this chapter shows us that exist people who care about others people.
I like Tom reaction when his master tried to convince him to hit a woman, this kind of person really is difficult to find in this time, Legree is a kind of person that I want to punish because he just doesn't care about people, only care himself, this Legree's slaves don't have good luck.
In this situation we can see how Legree used Lucy for prove Tom loyalty and also with the opposition to his master Tom showed a very strong spiritualism.
I loved when the the "weak" confront the people who have "powerful" at the society.
I have to mention Cassy action,too. Because she always tries to help Tom and be near him.
I don't like Legree and I hope he will be a good man in the end.

This opinion is thuth. Because when Legree proved Tom, and Tom didn't do that he order him. He was very angry and I think that Legree already knew that Tom wouldn't do that and used as excuse to punish him when He call Sambo and the other man. Legree did all those things for Tom would be unhappy.

I agree with you, I also began to think more about this people's situation, and I believe that in this time the paraguayans have the good luck and freedom in their hands but, What do they do? - They just waste this, being thieves, corrupt, bad people, lazy and waiting for an opportunity to have all that they want as easy as possible way.It isn't to feel happy. I think also that this book teach us in different aspect of the life.

I really liked this chapter, Tom's attitude is admirable, confronted his master saying what is true. I liked the part where Tom helped Lucy, that demonstrates that he is supportive, and he does not care what could happen to him, he always thinks and helps to the others. Well, I did not like the attitude of Mr. Legree when he hit Tom, and all just because he is a good person and refuse to hit a woman .. Mr. Legree, in my opinion is a coward for not wanting to accept that everything that Tom said is true.
On the other hand Cassy, I liked the attitude she had with Tom, in this chapter demonstrated that she is a good woman and really wants to help Tom.
I hope they never lose the hope that one day they will be free.

You're rigth!. Nothing could solve with violence, but in that time, they believe that the violence would teach them. But in this time there isn't many differences because, some people continues to believe that and I want to laugh when I heard on TV that the men said "I gonna give a lection to my wife, because she didn't cook today"- and they hit them.. It isn't funny ''HIT A WOMAN' It's funny The man 'KIND OF THINKING', I mean, where does they learn that ?. Sometimes the mothers teach them, or sometimes the fathers teach them. I think the woman and the man are THE SAME. Nobody have more powerfull than nobody.

Yes, I agree with you, many people do not know the difficult situation in which the slaves lived, simply because they have not passed all that they have passed and it is sad, because the majority do not care about all the bad things that happened to them.

Ok, That was a Chapter that I want to coment a lot, because I was confused this chapter with the last,haha, So, now, this chapter show more about Legree's personality, He is very unkind, but a person who can change, I think all persons have a debility, can the worst person be the best and kind person, Legree for example, He has his debility who is Cassy, his secret love suposedly, so, He pay attention at her, I think, because She understand him, sometimes, if you trate a person with good manners, is possible that the person do the same, not all persons, but the majority can be.
Now the best part for me was the help of Tom, He help the woman, who work but if She don't get enough cotton, is possible that Legree punish her, and Legree did, So, I think Tom help The woman, for feeling better, the woman was punished, but Tom did the things that He can, and I think that's the important, help other unmindful of what comes after, I really admired him, for His preposition to help other.

In this chapter we can see how Tom even crossing all of those sad things, he still had patience, religious patience, no losing the hope anyway. The secret dislike of Legree toward Tom demonstrates that when a person feels threaten begins to hate the other one, very simple, is a way we use to feel better with ourselves.
Is incredible that even being fellows, Sambo had a special hate toward the woman who Tom gave some cotton, but I guess when we had a hard work to do under pressure –in this case of Legree- we really get in and forget the rest, until our souls…

“I can stand it better than you”, I wonder how many people in history said those words to other person after helping him. Yes, maybe Tom knew nothing about that place, but at least he had a moral heart which is more important than vain knowledge.
I was surprised on the way Tom replied Legree when he order him to dam the woman; and even more when Tom was still alive after that event.

Cassy is almost like Tom, but he is even more stubborn than her; it seems she has learned too much things about life to be so compassionate as Tom. Her story is really sad, but is admirable how she continues –although I guess it is always so, we just continue again after a bad event- in that time, when almost nothing could be better for them.

“Soul”, that word has so much meaning in all the languages, nobody saw it yet, nobody touched it yet we just feel it in ourselves and in the others; we are still surprisingly very interested in that, it is like we need it for being who we are…

I agree with it, now we see persons who don't want to help even to their family. That's too bad because we are in the same world, we should see ourselves as brothers and sisters, trying to live together.

I agree with your first line, the chapter demonstrates there were people who really care about their fellow, that time when who wasn't selfish didn't count...

Yes Rosana, he though that because the was the strogest there, I mean, all of the slave were afraid of him, so he felt he could pass over everybody, nobody never said him anything, nobody protest because the fear of death has a strange power over the human being, the fear to the unknown death.
Violence doesn't solve problems, everybody knows it, but we are still using it in the trying to solve anything, each form of the violence is useless to solve whatever we want.
I think, when we have problems even talking sometimes can't solve them,so the only way is doing what is necessary, action is my key word and if the action is to talk, I do it!

I agree with you Liz, I really like all the things that Tom do, he always is right, he doesn`t do nothing that could affect the other people, I think that if other person were in his place, would do what the master say, because it would has afraid, and also would wants a better life without problems, so I think what Tom`s did is something that only a valiant person would do, because he had the courage to confront his master and not to do what his master`s said because it was wrong what he had to do.
Well, how in every chapters I said, I need to say again that Tom is an exelent man, and this story always show that.

in this chapter we can see the different forms of violence that were affected the slaves
Tom is a man who can make decisions in a unique way, This case reminds me of the famous phrase : today for you tomorrow for me
because tom frist help cassy and cassy also hepl tom
when we help make heart without expecting anything in return
Legree is a proud man is believed the owner of everything and everyone but inside is weak and wants to cover that being a bad man with the other slaves, treating them worse than animals, but each act has it's consequence

I agree with you Karen, Legree is a kind of person that doesn`t have compassion about the other people, but like you said, everybody could change the personality, and everybody have debilities, unfortunately is very difficult that the people change but is not impossible. Maybe Legree change his attitud and treating better the slaves, or just be the same....

In this chapter Legree's don't like how is Tom. in this chapter Tom help one Cassy but she said for he maybe that will have problems and them when the Legree's review the basket ,the Tom approved but the Cassy not and Legree's be angry and said for Tom hit her and he not do and Legree's said I'm your master and he said God is my master.Cassy have two children but when Legree bought she sense five years .In the morning Legree intented hit Tom but Cassy defend it and Legree really be angry promised revenge . We can see when we are nice person where we get we can have person help and defend we.

Tom has a pious and gentile personality, but Legree and his gang are so evil that force him to hit a poor woman.
We know what happened after this.
Those paragraphs where the author faces Tom's bravery, faith and kindness against Legree's cowardice and scorn were what I was expecting, as the hate that bad people can have towards some people just because they are different, because they have what they lack. Cassie is a good woman, but that's a hard place, so she had to adapt if she wanted to survive. Something I didn't expect was Legree's "submission" to Cassie.
I hope that now he has some friends, he can do something about his situation, because nobody can resist that very long –despite his words to Lucy- “I can stand it better than you" He doesn’t deserve to suffer like this. But what I admire is his wisdom, being simple, he knows what he must do better than other people that maybe are more cultivated but don’t have that light only a deep faith can give.

I agree with you, we are so blessed! We live in peace, with our family and all this kind of stuff, to short it, haha. We use to think that everybody lives like us, and if we are happy, everybody should be happy too. But we can’t see what’s happening outside, maybe because they’d never shown us or we don’t want to see. This is why I like this kind of stories: it shows us other faces of the world and his people and what can we do to avoid it from happening again.

You were –are? –confused but you had a funny idea! I’m not sure if I agree or not but I want to. If Legree changes or Tom finds his debility for Cassie and “attacks” or whatever it’s going to be so weirdly fun! –I can’t stop thinking and laughing about that!!

NO. We know that it isn’t going to happen.

Also I agree in the part where you said what matters is he did the right thing, because everything we do comes back to us.

Once more, I ended so admired with the decision of Tom!
It's really amazing the way that he see the life, is amazing the way that he's facing to his troubles.
I like very much the differents declarations that he done when more he's in poor state.

I'm more that convinced that Tom can take forces of where seems that there aren't, because his only base and his only force is CHRIST, is GOD.

Just for this reason, he can follow full of hope and full of love yet, and only for this reason also he has forces to be an Excellent person full of compassion with everybody.

I think, Tom is who is, and has this conviccion of do the thing really fine, just because his inspiration and his BIG FORCE is Christ, of other way he won't be all of he is :)
I love this part where Tom with faith declares:
"I shall have help; you'll never do it" and Legree said:Who's going to help you?
Tom said with certainty: "The Lord Almighty"

At the moment where he may supposedly only to hear and lose his force, in this moment he give the most impressive declarations :') It impressed me each time, more and more

I agree with you, only because Tom isn't the same of he, he's going to do the imposible for see to Tom in poor conditions and others :(
And is really crazy like spite of all this, Tom doesn't do something to please Legree, that after of all is his master!
Is amazing the different way of think of Tom.

Yes Camila! I think the same, Tom is really persevering in his way of be, and for nothing at the world He changed his mind :)
Even when Legree threatened him, he persevered at every time, never he ceded
his personality or his character to please to Legree.

In the cotton fields, Legree only interest is profit. Tom suffers most - not because he isn’t a hard worker, but because he believes that one day his suffering will be ended by the Lord. Because Tom has so much faith, Legree has no power over him and cannot force him to do anything that might harm another soul.
Well, I really liked the appearance of these women in this chapter and even more because they were good people predisposed to help when Tom most needed.
But I did not like the way Tom was mistreated again.
I wonder how you can be so hated and maltreated when you want to make things better, but that was not only at the time because until now sometimes wanting to do right, you go out ill :/

I think the patient and hope are very important because in sometimes when all appear bad is when we want to lose the hope, and in this moments God is the best friend, in all moment of our life we must to trust in him!

Only having a very strong spiritualism like Liz said too, we could develop a similar attitude.

I agree with you, God is the pillar that keeps us alive and make us stronger
he is the only one who never forgets us and only wants what is good for us

is true many people work more than they should and earn a salary that doesn't deserve, and that depends on the food for their family
in other cases employees treated slaves, are abused both physically and spiritually.
owners think they are superior beings of the other people

very well,! I liked this chapter...! because it spoke about our reality we can compare,
I admire! how is tom manifested his gentleman characterize wich was watched with a jealous eye by Legree,
Nowadays it happen, we don't have the hability to distinguish when people is sincere, because we tired, people are very false, we our all in the same basket, you can try to look other positive things to analize how you are now, for example look at in the mirrow, and the other is your mirrow , try in a good form, try people how you wish they try you, don't critize other appearance or look with a glass. IT's interesting how tom look at in minimun details of other people he's very good observer, it was evidently how lucy was suffering, I think so! that make him help her! tom is valient to confront declare against violence, he never did , whip someone, she's a , lady
no an animal,legree attitude it doesn't a sorprise for me , it's common how people use astutely the phrase of the bible of other word of widsom phrases to argument their behaviors, it's a good idea familiare, but what we can do? when they reject you, this is no big enougth problem, when they didn't like you .. this is your personality and cannot change, maybe accept or adjust it, because we gave the opportunity to created small groups, organized that, but we can mixture, meet, share with other, and make news friends, for example in the case, cassy and Tom, the started inmediate conversation, and then they found they have the similar history,!

I liked very much your phrases,really who can have the posibility, and they have all things was mentioned by rebeca, to give valuable, is't very important, because years ago, and nowadays are people didn't enjoy it, all thing you are enjoying, I agree with you it's a good story, to entertaiment and turn on our mind, we can avoid for this situation pass again,

Is a example to follow Tom's attitude, He isn't weak character´s person nor in personality, is a impeccable man, that already has won the heaven, to Tom doesn´t import him the mundane and he shown him in previous chapters.
Prefer be punished and beaten oneself,instead of hit to his neighbor is attitude brave and valuable person of.
Enough I talked about Tom in my previous comments, continue to speak well of him would be very repetitive. Sometimes I think Tom is God´s sent as Jesus in other era.
To now Tom didn´t do bad to anybody.
If Tom doesn´t get his freedom in the world in the heaven he will rewarded for his patience.
I like this chapter by slaves attitude.

I agree with Karen, the persons can change and Legree can change for good, with the help of Tom and Cassy. Why Tom? Because with his patience, humility, perseverance, kindness can win the everybody heart.
Also I think Legree is so with the slaves only to didn´t show weakness front they, in the deep maybe Legree is a good person, but only after will know.
