Karina Many books seem to have a love triangle. How do you feel about them? Why do you love or hate them??

I don't know.. My opinion keeps on changing! At first I liked love triangles but now every book features one. I think love triangles are over-used now after HG and Twilight even though they weren't the first books to use it.

message 3: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Sanglay (speckintheuniverse) There are books where the love triangles actually work out for me, but others can get annoying. My favorite would be Jem/Tessa/Will!

Matched was a book where the love triangle didn't work out for me but love triangles work really well in the Infernal Devices, Twilight, and Hunger Games.

I'm kind of sick of them. I prefer just one love interest.

message 6: by Susana (new)

Susana | 70 comments I love love triangles, because they keep the conflict going on. They make the main character also not so perfect. But I only like them if they make any sense (Peeta, Gale, Katniss), not when you just feel like shooting the main girl (bella, jacob and edward)

Terri ♥ (aka Mrs. Christian Grey) (mybookboyfriend) | 19 comments I love drama, so love triangles don't bother me. I think they can spice up a book. I prefer that to misunderstanding being the basis of romantic angst. That drives me nuts.

message 8: by Michele, The bookoholic! (new)

Michele C (mcgxo95) | 4897 comments Mod
Yeah in some books love triangles work well to create drama and conflict yet some times people just take it way to far.For example, with Twilight some people own team edward and team jacob shirts and get into conflicts if someone is on the opposite"team"

ℂᖺαᖇᒪἷ℮ ⊰1017 &Tardis⊱ (charlie_awesome) Love triangles are downright annoying these days, but I don't mind THG (It was done well) the other books over dramatize it and it's terrible. Love confusion is okay but an out and out love triangle is too much old news

The love triangle idea is very repetitive but I really hate how people choose teams!!

message 11: by Aurora (new)

Aurora | 129 comments I don't really like them. I definitely don't approve when the girl has to choose between the good guy best friend or the bad boy that she instantly "falls in love with." I don't believe in that c***. There are only a few love triangles that I approve of:
Sadie Kane and Walt/Anubis: I approve of it because of how it ended.
Katniss and Peeta/Gale: It wasn't really between them. She had no choice if she wanted to keep her family alive. Plus, although I think the ending was really sad, I approve of how it ended.
Yep, I think those are the only ones thus far that I approve of. Of course, if one of the characters dies, then I think it solves the problem.

Love triangles are fine as long as they're not the central theme of the book, ie Teen Paranormal Romance lit. If it's just a part of the storyline, like Thomas in the Maze Runner trilogy, then it's okay.

Cupcake Bookworm (cupcakebookworm) i like some love triangles sometimes. depends on the book, characters, and my mood.

Cupcake Bookworm (cupcakebookworm) Scott wrote: "The love triangle idea is very repetitive but I really hate how people choose teams!!"

ik!! i hate teams. its all like really? ITS A BOOK. YES I KNOW BOOKS ARE IMPORTANT AND STUFF BUT U CANT EXACTLY FORE EXAMPLE GO CHANGE TWILIGHT AND MAKE BELLA GO WITH JACOB CAN U? SO Y BOTHER? have ur opinion, but dont make teams. i also think that insults the author cuz ur saying that u dont like how he or she wrote the book.

message 14: by Karina (last edited May 22, 2012 06:57PM) (new)

Karina I choose teams! But its isn't because I'm hoping to change the way things end. I do it just to show which character I support/prefer. Like in Twilight, I say I'm team Jasper, because I love his character. so I don't even pick just between two people. Once I give my opinion about which character i like better..well thats pretty much choosing sides(or teams). But in the end i still respect the authors decisions, after all it is his/her book.

As far as love triangles go....mmm..I like most of them but there are a few that get annoying.

I guess I kind of pick teams but I hate when people go overboard on the team thing.

There's a shirt that says I'm Team Guy Whohit Bella with a car lol

That's what I was talking about. James Dashner came up with a solution that worked to solve the debatable love triangle in the Maze Runner.

It's the best.

message 22: by Emma (new)

Emma I hate love triangles. Then everyone's all like team blah or team blah, and it just becomes more about that. Also, it's really depressing when the main character doesn't choose the person whose team you were on.

Oh yeah that ruins it. Ive heard of girls getting beat up for being on the "wrong team". It gets so ridiculous.

message 26: by Aurora (new)

Aurora | 129 comments I'm not team anything, really. I do have the character I prefer to be the match in the love triangle, (usually the "good guy" best friend character) but I don't say I'm "Team Peeta" or "Team Jacob" or whatever. If anything, I'm team "main character."

Teams do get annoying!!

message 28: by Eva (new)

Eva I HATE love triangles, it feels like they are in every teen book now, especially the dystopians. They are unrealistic and add pointless drama with no plot to speak of.

It's Eva and yeah it seems as though today they are in each book. I keep going back forth with love triangles but I think they really aren't too bad as long as they aren't the main plotline of a book!

I loved it. I have read better though and also know that many didn't like it as much but whether you like it or hate it you don't need to be rude and psychotic about it. If you hate it fine whatever and if you like it then FINe whatever but respect others opinions...and don't kill anyone over it. geez.

It really isn't! Its a book...with fictional characters. When i was in high school There was this guy in my class who knew i liked Twilight and every single day after class he would always make comments about how much he hated it and how stupid it was and he was only trying to get a reaction out of me but i honestly could care less what he thought. I think he thought that just because i was a fan that i was crazy like most girls. haha

Yeah he wasn't worth it but it made me laugh that he thought he could attack my self-esteem. He obviously didn't know me at all. His stupidity was entertaining lol

Haha you're not a fan?

message 44: by S.L.J. (new)

S.L.J. (sammyslj) | 43 comments I think think SM can weave a sentence together but her characters and plot were lacking. It was a fun, fairy-tale romance in Twilight but by the time it reached Breaking Dawn, it got more than stupid. Just my opinion of course.

message 45: by Karina (new)

Karina I had three issues with the entire saga 1. Bella, 2. Sparkly vampires, 3. No bloody war in Breaking dawn
