L's 2009 challenge
I liked it ok, it was the first of her books that I have read. By the end I started to get into it a little more than the beginning.
L, "The People of the Book" has been on my "To Read" list for awhile. How highly would you recommend it?

How highly would you recommend it?""The People of the Book" started out a little slow, had some really interesting parts, and then would lose its momentum for me. That being said I loved the idea that the story presented to me... That is in general that everyone (or in this case everything) has a story of how they came to be where they are. I recommend it highly, but with the stipulation that you may have to get through a few sections of slow reading.

L,"The Picture of Dorian Gray" has been calling to me for a re-read lately . . . how did you like it?
I liked it,eventhough the tragic character that Dorian becomes by the end was sometimes hard to "watch". I liked Lord Henry's numerous epigrams, whether true or not. This being my first reading of it, I saw it as the classic "selling your soul to the devil story". Having to read other books like that in school I was suprised that I never came across this sooner.

The move is actually excellent and quite true to the novel, from the best I can recall.
L wrote: "47. The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom"I've been meaning to read this one for quite awhile. . . should I put it near the top of my "To Read" pile?
I thought it was a good story and very thought provoking. It had been on my to read list a while too and I wasn't disappointed. Since it is so short you could read it in an afternoon, so it wouldn't be a huge waste of time if you didn't like it. I would definitely recommend it though it makes me question who my five people would be.
I also really enjoyed reading this book. It's a very quick but thought provoking read. I think you will like it Kay.

L, I hear you about the reading challenges. Don't you feel that sometimes it really expands your mind, though?
Kay, I do feel that challenges expand the mind--and keep me out of reading ruts as well. I just look back at my reading history the last few weeks, and find it a funny twist of choices.
