Jorge (jsalgueiro) | 68 comments Hi

I believe these two authors are the same:

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

I believe these two are also the same:
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

I believe these two are the same (and I'm not so sure about using arabic script on author names):

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

Cheers,
Jorge

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Got the first 2 sets

It is fine to have a English and another(or more) language profiles with links to each in the author profile. This one will take longer to sort

Jorge (jsalgueiro) | 68 comments Doesn't it wreak havoc with combining versions?

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Yes - thats why if a book has been translated from the original language then we would use the roman name in the primary author position for all books that where translated which allows for combining. The names in other languages go in the secondary / tertiary places.

If a book has never been translated then the author stays in the original language

Which is why the 3rd set is going to take longer to do

For Example -
Anton Chekhov - Primary English

Антон Павлович Чехов - Russian Secondary

If there where french / spanish/german translations those author names would follow on (in no particular order) but the primary author should stay as the english one.

Jorge (jsalgueiro) | 68 comments I see...

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Another example

The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam was set up correctly with the English name in primary position - you can tell this since 378 editions are combined when you look at the other editions section.

http://www.goodreads.com/work/edition...

If you look further - you will see that not all the editions have the same primary author - this is because people come along and change out the authors but do not separate first.

They should not be changing the authors in the first place but if they do then this is where you will now see problems with statistics and combines etc.

Jorge (jsalgueiro) | 68 comments Yes, I see.

This was very helpful. It means I will have to approach the issue of Fernando Pessoa and his heteronyms with great care, as it may also involve changing author order and separating combined editions...

Is it me or poetry books are more of an headache than other books, as regards sorting and such? :)

Cheers,
Jorge
