1. The continue debate between poverty of Jesus and his disciples versus the wealth of the church's treasury which is irreverent to the worth of brotherly love, which was Jesus's message.2.No book, idea, philosophy is sacred or can be hidden. For all will wither, die or in this case be destroyed along with all the churches's treasures. The only true lasting truth is the loving and caring of our fellow man.
Group read. Umberto Eco,"The Name of the Rose",pp.502. Quite an ambitious attempt to reveal all the intrique and deception to gain power over church and state. Brother William is summoned by the abbot to investigate suspicion of heresy. Eco's first novel is quite extensive history of the 14th century Catholic church's philosophy and practices. A little too wordy for me. The friendship of Brother Williams and his scribe,Abso, is entertaining and touching and really makes the book a worthwhile read.
