Lately Marvel has reissued an idea that was done back in the '40s. This idea was classics rewritten as comic book form to get a younger audience interested in them.

One book of Jane Austen's that was done like this was Sense & Sensibility. While I really enjoyed how they kept exactly to the book, all the text being the same I didn't enjoy all the artistic representations. This tended toward a more caricature style, with quite a few times having the character's head much larger than their body, and having stubby little legs. I loved how Edward and Colonel Brandon were depicted, as handsome men, and Marianne was lovely; however Elinor wasn't. The artist chose to draw Elinor without bangs, I believe to help the reader discern the two sisters better, but instead she looks as if she has a receding hairline. Also whenever she wears a bonnet she looks bald. However it is a fun read and I recommend it to anyone who loves classics and comics
I really want to get these they have Pride and Prejudice,Sense and Sensibility,Emma(all these are out) and Northanger Abby is coming out sometime these year.
I have already read the three pages of Pride and Prejudice the marvel comic and I have to say that it is a disgrace to Jane Austen and everything logical and reasonable and Pride and Prejudicy!!!
I have Pride and Prejudice. Just looking to see where I can find the others or if I need to order it to have it shipped to me.
Pride & Prejudice by Nancy Butler was done very well. The story line remains mostly the same, a few pieces of the storyline have been omitted (but not that much); and full of the original language. It was illustrated much better than the Sense and Sensibility, in that the characters were all perfectly proportioned with each one being very attractive. A fun read for any Jane Austen fan.
I have looked at some of sample from some of the marvel classics and like them. But it probably helps that I'm a rare Jane Austen fan that is a comic book fan too.-Pammie
This is showing my age, BUT, I grew up on comic books, however never went the way of collectors. To bad, but when I heard about the Jane Austens, I couldn't help myself. Pride & Prejudice is a 5 book series from Marvel. I have all of them. I have to admit the covers art are all different, and some don't seem very good. Open the book, read them? Are you nuts!!! They are in plastic sealed bags. I may not have collected, but I do have the recessive gene.I know I should collect them all, but I'm waiting for Persuasion. My favorite of her books.
