Do you feel that emoticons-- :) lol, etc. are appropriate on Goodreads?

I think it depends. I mean, they're appropriate for casual conversations, but I think in book reviews and writings they are tacky.

Definetly appropriate; unless some members are having a deep philosophical discussion and someone randomly comments this: :-) But hey. That's the risk you take, being in a fun group like this.
