The first one I read was Hubble Bubble and that got me hooked.

Another favourite author of mine is Victoria Connelly. Her books are very romantic and feel good.
I especially enjoyed her Austen Addicts Trilogy

(well done for translating by badly typed comment LOL)

Thanks so much for your kind words.
I'm a massive fan of chick lit, and Victoria Connelly, Gemma Burgess, and Sophie Kinsella (of course)are all firm favourites. Right now, I'm reading Misfortune Cookie by Michele Gorman and really enjoying it!
I think chick lit usually focuses on the female protagonist. Romance is an element, but it exists to help the main character accomplish her quest. That's how I define it as different from straight-up romance, anyway.
Looking forward to the group - thanks, Karen, for starting it!

A big wave to everyone!
I think the chicklit genre is so diverse, encompassing all the issues that modern women face. And it's so much more than killer-shoes and pink covers! It can be sad, happy, kick-ass, fun, comic, scary, inspiring, heart-warming, intriguing, romantic, raunchy, sassy, full of attitude, quirky, tear-jerking, but most of all, it's just about our journeys in life.
Talli, I've got a couple of yours on my Kindle right now to read! I also love Gemma Halliday - great fun mysteries - Sophie Kinsella is a big fave, along with people like Catherine Alliot and Marian Keyes. I've been neglecting my chick lit reading lately as I'm on a thriller session, in preparation for a psychological thriller I'll be writing at the end of summer.
Long live chick lit! :)

I used to like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. That is my favourite type of chick lit, but the stories were getting samey. With Sibel's series, I have a new heroine to follow.

I've got a couple of Sophie Kinsella PBs here. Gotta sell them. :(

I remember Chiclets from my childhood - didn't think they were as good as Wrigley's. Chiclets being sweeter caused me to swallow rather than chew - but then I have always been a slow learner :-o)

Joo, that's soooo nice to hear! Amber Fox is often compared to Stephanie Plum, and she's fun, feisty, witty, but also capable.

What about Pacers? The stripy, chewy minty sweets - lurrrrved those! :)

Anyone remember Bazooka Joe bubble gum?

Never heard of that and I have heard of a lot of sweeties since I grew up in a sweetie shop.

I've finished reading both Build A Man and Construct A Couple now and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Hope you enjoy it, Sibel - I certainly did.
Anything new of yours in the pipeline? As you know, I've enjoyed your books more and more as each one comes out...

Not heard of Pacers - was never fussy on bubble gum (rather than chewing gum) as I lost a filling or two with the bubble stuff. But then the UK in the late 40's & 50's was not known for its great dentistry :-o)

Karen and Joo, you've made my day, you sweeties! Actually, the next one in the pipeline is going to be a psychological thriller! But I'm not neglecting the chick lit - I'm hoping to do another Amber Fox mystery early next year, and also a chick lit comedy based in Vegas. :)

I've read a few chick lit book lately. The first was a mainstream one which is about to be (or has been) made into a film:-
I quite enjoyed it and can imagine it making a good film. I'm not so keen on this type of chick lit though which is full of dating and searching for Mr Right. Although this novel had some great fun supporting characters!
The next three books that I read were by Indie's (all "our" authors) and I enjoyed them much more. There is a lot more to these stories than finding Mr Right!
I thought that this was excellent and reminds me why I don't read tabloids or watch reality tv!
I noticed that this has mixed reviews but I really enjoyed it - it's light hearted and silly (in a fun way.) One reviewer (I think it was Aunty Janet) likened it to a farce. I had me laughing out loud several times.
I thought that this was also very good. Although this had humour and romance in it, it was a more serious tale. It dealt with a group of women (mother and daughters) who had escaped an abusive relationship. I felt that it handled the characters and the situation very well. It wasn't at all miserable but was inspiring.
Chick lit covers so much. I wonder if using this label is unhelpful because many will avoid a book if it is described as chick lit - I have noticed that the book descriptions now seem to label them romantic comedies. However, either label is a bit narrow considering how much variety is out there!

I've wrote A Proper Charlie

And The Fall of the Misanthrope (Amazon Kindle only), which is a darker chick lit than usual. I like writing about gritting reality.
Btw why can't I add Kindle books here? Are GR and Amazon in competition?
Done it! Woo! The Fall of the Misanthrope: I bitch, therefore I am
Hi Louise!
I've read and enjoyed A Proper Charlie but didn't know about your other book, so will check that out.
Amazon and goodreads parted ways a while ago. If you are the author of a book you can add it to the database yourself. A few of us on here are also goodreads librarians (I'm one too) so we can add the book for you if you like. You will need to provide a cover photo for the book though - if you try to copy the photo from amazon it comes out much too small. Since the break, amazon books are no longer automaticually added to the database.

How do I get a cover to you? Email?
You can email me if you like, with a file - I'll pm you my email addy if you wish. However, as the author you should be able to upload the photo yourself. Let me know if you have any problems. You can upload it from your pc if you have the file on there.

Yay! Well done!
Today's daily deal looks like some nice pleasant chick lit, and it's set in Cornwall, so I had to buy it!

One of Louise's books is free today. I've read her two other books A Proper Charlie and Eden, enjoying both of them (Eden is romantic sci fi rather than chick lit)

Ages since anyone's posted in this thread!
I noticed that Victoria Connelly has a new book available for pre-order, 99p

I thought that I would post it here rather than start a separate recommedation thread.
I've enjoyed her other books, particularly the Austen Addicts trilogy (which is listed above) and my favourite book of hers, The Runaway Actress

Chick lit is one of several genres that I enjoy. I'm not so keen on the Bridget Jones's Diary gotta find a man type of chick lit. I've read some of that and enjoyed it at first, but that style gets very samey after a while. I enjoy chick lit that offers a bit more than that and there are some great indies writing that sort of thing.
Sibel Hodge is one of my favourites, two books of hers that I have particularly enjoyed are Voodoo Deadly http://www.amazon.co.uk/Voodoo-Deadly... and The Baby Trap http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Baby-Trap...
I'm also just discovering Talli Roland. At the mo I am reading Build A Man http://www.amazon.co.uk/Build-A-Man-e... (which is free today). There is a sequel available now too, at just 99p at the mo - Construct A Couple http://www.amazon.co.uk/Construct-A-C...
Over to you - chick lit fans and authors! Who are your favourite authors? Authors - got any new releases to tell us about? Any chick lit in the free books today? Just read something you really enjoyed and want to recommend?
Happy reading!
