M | 11617 comments Welcome to basic conversational French. Don’t look so worried. French is just like English, only backwards. The hardest part is getting the accent down. Your instructor will be Monsieur M. Now for the first lesson:

Havez-vous un lawn tu meau?

message 2: by Kyra (new)

Kyra (Nikara) | 1221 comments You just gave me reason to worry. (sigh)

Cheyenne | 815 comments Oh man......

message 4: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments At the rate I’m learning, it will be years before I can join this thread, but the group badly needs one--if only so I can try to follow it!

message 5: by Cheyenne (new)

Cheyenne | 815 comments You should make a sign language thread :] I can teach people!

message 6: by Kymela (last edited Jun 16, 2012 11:59AM) (new)

Kymela (kymelatejasi) | 674 comments Bonjour, mon amis!

For now, I have to use a mix of google translate and my books, because my dictionary doesn't have all the words I'm looking for.

message 7: by Kyra (new)

Amen to that. I recognize the word you. And vous is we or something like that right????

message 9: by Kymela (new)

Kymela (kymelatejasi) | 674 comments 'vous' is polite and plural for 'you.'
'we' is 'nous.'

message 10: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 181 comments Gahhhhh! French!
Ummm...
Ouais! Allez-vous nous envoyer à la France? Parce que je soutiens pleinement cela.

I hope I said that right.

message 11: by Michelle (new)

message 12: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Reply to #8: We aren’t here to learn French. I was just curious to see who in the group knew some. I knew Alex had studied it. I think Guy speaks French. Clearly, Kyra speaks French. I don’t know French well enough to speak it or write it. I’ve been reading Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire in French, but it’s been slow going. It seemed it might be fun to have a thread where anyone who feels like spouting off in French (or in Latin or German or any other foreign language) could feel free to do it.

message 13: by Cheyenne (new)

Cheyenne | 815 comments Deutsch?? Ich verstehen nicht sehr viel. Dich verstehen Deutsch? Ich lerne

(If I even said that right....I tried to learn German a few months ago but I didn't get very far before I got occupied with other things.)

message 14: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Moi aussi.

message 15: by Cheyenne (new)

Cheyenne | 815 comments Alex (Al) wrote: "Ah, Deutsch! Früher habe ich, dass zu studieren.

I think that's right. It's been a while and I'm using a mixture of my German book, google and my own knowledge."

Ich verstand, kaum... Ich merken nicht sehr viel.... :(
Dich studieren Deutsch?

message 16: by Cheyenne (new)

Cheyenne | 815 comments Hahaha. The only thing I remember without thinking hard for 10 minutes is "I don't understand very much German." That's why it took me forever to type that last one... And decipher your post :p

message 17: by Cheyenne (new)

There's exactly one more month until I'm twenty. I'm freaking out. I'm starting to feel old!"

You're only 19? I thought you were 21. *cough cough* I wonder why :p

LOL!!! Me speaking French... Oh, that's funny!!! I have a translator on my computer. But my nine-year-old sister is learning French. XD

M | 11617 comments Alex (Al) wrote: “There’s exactly one more month until I’m twenty. I’m freaking out. I’m starting to feel old!”

That makes me sick.

message 20: by Kyra (new)

Kyra (Nikara) | 1221 comments Alex (Al) wrote: "Yes, I don't know why that surprises so many people. Everyone I meet thinks I'm in my mid-twenties. It's rather strange.

I don't drink often and I've never been drunk, but I love wine. I'd drink ..."

Strange??? I thought you were in your mid-twenties, and I haven't even met you in person before.

message 21: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments I thought she was in her thirties, divorced, with a couple of kids. Was I in for a shock.

message 22: by Kyra (new)

Kyra (Nikara) | 1221 comments LOL!!! Can you imagine Al with kids??? (sudden, horrible thought) Who'd be the father??? Frank??!!!

message 23: by Cheyenne (new)

Cheyenne | 815 comments Oh man.... You guys crack me up.

M, you thought Al was in her thirties?? WOW!

Kyra, that made me laugh much harder than it probably should have. It's a good thing I've got the house to myself.

Al, I just found the alcohol funny. I wasn't judging, I've got no room to judge.

message 24: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments A sterile muse is not a good thing.

message 25: by Cheyenne (new)

Cheyenne | 815 comments There are some people who seriously need to be sterile.

message 26: by Kymela (new)

Kymela (kymelatejasi) | 674 comments If we speak other languages in this thread, though, the name would have to be changed. XD

My favourite word in any other language-kaapiturumaviit? :D

message 27: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Sometimes I forget where I am. I’ll explain when we’re out in the hall.

message 28: by Cheyenne (new)

Cheyenne | 815 comments MY NEIGHBORS TOO!!!! They've got kids spilling from their ears! And they've always got music blaring so loud that I can hear it in my house. (You know that's loud.) Not to mention my bedroom is an add-on to the house. A poorly constructed add-on at that! The lightswitch is seven feet down the wall from the door, the AC doesn't work in here, and it's too hot in summer, too cold in winter! Anyways, point of bringing up my bedroom: it's the closest room in the house to the neighbors. -_-

message 29: by Kyra (new)

Kyra (Nikara) | 1221 comments Poor Cheyenne.

message 30: by Kymela (new)

Kymela (kymelatejasi) | 674 comments Tudja valaki hogyan kell beszélni a magyar?

That's probably totally wrong...

nó Gàidhlig?

message 31: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments . . . dans le couloir,

message 32: by Kyra (last edited Jun 17, 2012 02:40PM) (new)

message 33: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Ainsi va la vie.

message 34: by Kyra (new)

Kyra (Nikara) | 1221 comments Conjecture ainsi.

message 35: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Mlle. Dawson?

message 36: by Kyra (new)

LOL.

message 37: by M (new)

message 44: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Bonjour, Maxim!

message 45: by M (last edited Jun 20, 2012 04:09PM) (new)

message 50: by Kyra (new)

XD
