Laymon and McCammon are among my favorite writers of horror.

"Boy's Life", although not exactly horror is an amazing piece of fiction and a must read for all fans of Horror/Mystery books.

If you liked Swan Song and would care to try another book by McCammon I HIGHLY suggest Boy's Life.

Eric Greenfield Spoiler Alert below! I finished Swan Song as an audible book on a four hour drive so I may have missed some plot points while listening to the GPS at the same time. Hopefully someone can clarify. If the ring acts like a crown which protects Swan, why didn't she use it against the man with the scarlet eye? Also, Josh went into his coma holding the tarot card but when he awoke, he never told Swan the ring was a protective crown. Why not? And lastly, when Sister figured the ring was a protective crown, she said that she knew it for a long time. If so, why didn't she use it on Swan earlier?

Eric,
Unfortunately, I read Swansong many years ago, so the book is not fresh in my head. I would be of very little help, unless I reread the book. Sorry.

Perhaps others could help clarify your questions.

Tara (tarabrown566) | 3 comments Unfortunately, it's been quite a few years since I read Swan Song myself. I just finished The Five this morning and I'm about to start reading Boy's Life now. I think I'll read Swan Song again after that.

JDB | 64 comments As far as writing goes, I think Robert McCammon outshines most of the big boys. His prose flow smooth and slick, I love his style.

The Border is released and on my TBR list. I just landed a signed copy that I will not read. I need to purchase the Nook or Amazon version so I can read it.

It's hard to find fault with any of McCammon's work. He really is a master storyteller. Any feedback on his latest, The Border The Border by Robert McCammon ?

Elizabeth I loved this work so far I've read 2 of his books and they are:
The Wolf's Hour by Robert McCammon ( which was this year) and his newest one since his back to writing which is Freedom of the Mask by Robert McCammon ( loved it)

McCammon is amazing in my book. If you haven't read Boy's Life or Swan Song, I highly recommend them as they are my all-time favorites.

Nurse Nightmare | 4 comments Boys life, very flowing very descriptive not overly scary or gory as such and a very exciting and up beat ending to the book!!

message 15: by Holly (new)

Holly (goldikova) Blue World is my favorite, probably because I really enjoy story collections. Usher's Passing was good as well, and I loved the way he described the house.

Blue World is a great collection. My favorite short story of all time, Nightcrawlers, is in Blue World.

message 17: by Char (new)

Char Boy's Life is my favorite McCammon book, but I've read them all and most more than once. Boy's Life is a magical experience and it's the book I push on people the most.

Blue World is a fantastic collection. Nightcrawlers was made into a Twilight Zone episode, (the NEW TZ, not the old), and the entire show is available on You Tube. I thought they did a great job with it.
My favorite story from Blue World has to be Night Calls the Green Falcon. It brought me to tears more than once.

I admit it, I adore McCammon.

Elizabeth, you MUST read the previous books in the Matthew Corbett series! (I recently finished Freedom of the Mask too, and LOVED it.)

message 23: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I am in the middle of Swan Song right now. It's my first by him and while I enjoy his style of writing it feels a bit like fan fic of The Stand. I know everyone compares the two but because I've read The Stand about 10 times I can't not.

I will be looking for more by him because, like I said, the writing is good, it's just originality that seems to be missing.

I've had to abandon Swan Song. I just couldn't get into it.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I had a plan to start reading a lot more of his books soon.

I read Swan Song years back, Baal, and A Boy's Life

About to read Mine

Mine is hidden gem among McCammon's collection of work. It doesn't get the notoriety as say Boy's Life, Swan Song or The Wolf's Hour, but it is great ride in the head of a 1960's radical psychopath. Can you say cuckoo?!? Hope you enjoy it!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Ken, nice to know it' s a good one! Hope I enjoy it.

I actually need to re-read that one sometime to give it a review.

I'm looking forward to it.

message 37: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 52 comments McCammon has completely passed me by. Until I joined this group I had no idea who he was.

And I've had a copy of Mystery Walk on my book shelf for a few years. Boyfriend and I bought it randomly because the cover was so awful.

From you guys recommendations I listened to Boy's Life on audiobook and I loved it. I'm definitely going to be reading more of his stuff.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Glad to bring over another fan Jennifer :)

I loved Wolf's Hour, except for one part where he started to lose me, then I read the sequel/prequel Hunter From the Woods, which was amazing!
I just picked up Swan Song and Boy's Life.

You're in for a treat, Jason. Boy's Life is my absolute favorite story of all time and Swan Song is my favorite post-apocalypse tale. All great stuff!

message 42: by Wade (new)

Wade | 14 comments I really enjoy McCammon as well. Have read at least 5 by him. The only thing I struggled with was The Night Boat by Robert McCammon I set that one down after 20-30 pages, but will probably come back to it one of these days.

The Night Boat by Robert McCammon was one of his early novels and he hadn't quite found his style just yet. He wrote a great piece somewhere about his evolution as a writer, finding early success while learning the ropes with the public eye already on him.

message 43: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth My favorite is The Wolf's Hour The Wolf's Hour (Michael Gallatin, #1) by Robert McCammon because it was the first and only book of his I ever read , I actually have it as a nook book while just last year I picked up as a Kindle book Swan Song by Robert McCammon ,still have to read it.

message 44: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I've read a couple of his and own The Wolf's Hour which I plan on reading this year.

message 45: by Leah (new)

Leah Polcar | 1 comments I read Swan Song forever ago, but I remember being ultimately underwhelmed. Maybe it is because of the comparisons to The Stand, but while I appreciate it as an early entry into the post-apocalyptic genre, I just never felt it. However, that didn't discorage me from reading more McCammon. I am a wicked fan of the Matthew Corbett series and after I get done with Gaiman's new one, which has distracted me from the series, I am so ready to listen to The Wolf's Hour and find out what happens next! (Also, I add my fourth or fifth about A Boy's Life -- really liked that book).

I read The Night Boat last year and was very disappointed with it. It didn't seem to have any heart to it and I was bored most of the time.

Hayley | 1 comments Just finished Bethany's Sin and although I've seen comments that this one isn't his best,as a first time reading McCammon,if this is his worst,I can't wait to read his best!!I loved this book,it was creepy and really drew you in.I thought it had the feel of a Hammer House film!

message 48: by Kenneth (new)

Kenneth McKinley | 677 comments Mod
Bethany's Sin definitely has a Hammer feel to it. McCammon doesn't get the love as much as some of the big boys, but I think he's gotten better as he's aged. I can't say the same thing for King.

As a huge McCammon fan, this makes me grin from ear to ear (whether or not, that smile is full of razor sharp teeth is still being debated)!

From Cemetary Dance Publishing:

Not only do we have TWO very special (unannounced) signed Limited Editions from Robert McCammon deep in production to be published this year (and they are very unique books that have never seen print in this format before!), but I’m thrilled to report that in February 2018 we’ll be publishing one of our most important releases ever: THE LISTENER by Robert McCammon, a breathtaking new novel that will not only please his longtime fans but also captivate readers who have somehow missed out on his previous work. This one feels like a game changer to everyone who has read it.

Simply put, this is one of the finest novels I’ve read in years. Period. THE LISTENER will be published in trade hardcover and eBook formats for general readers, but we also have some incredible plans for the signed editions as well. Stay tuned for complete details over the next year as we gear up to publish this novel in a major way.

That’s all for now, but I’ll probably pop back in later this year for another update regarding even more exciting Cemetery Dance releases. As always, thanks for your continued support and enthusiasm!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Very nice!
