Andrew Finazzo (johnyqd) | 343 comments I'm thinking about Swamplandia! as our first book selection in July. I'm open to any ideas though. Swamplandia has some mixed reviews, but it seems generally fun (if a little dark). I'm a wee bit hesitant because I felt burned by the semi-shallowness of The Family Fang.

Other ideas from my to read list include:

The Sisters Brothers

Mr. Fox

The Woman in the Dunes

The End of Mr. Y

Dark Places

Cast a vote or throw out another idea, let's get this group rolling!

Suzie | 28 comments Of the choices above, I'd like to try "The end of Mr Y"...I read a preview and it caught my attention. I'll think about some possible suggestions to throw into the mix...

Andrew Finazzo (johnyqd) | 343 comments I'm thinking we'll start a poll Monday or Tuesday (25th or 26th) with three choices (and an option for "Not reading the monthly selection next month").

If you have any other ideas throw them into the ring over the weekend!

message 4: by Suzie (new)

Suzie | 28 comments I'd like to read The Ghosts of Belfast, which is a crime thriller, Irish and a series, all favorites of mine. The Ghosts of Belfast

Another book that I love to read this time of year, every few years, is Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver. Prodigal Summer

Another one that looks interesting to me is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I love a good narrator. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

message 5: by Suzie (new)

Suzie | 28 comments I also wouldn't mind if anybody wanted to join me in reading A Game of Thrones, The Pillars of the Earth, or The Thirteenth Tale, so we could discuss...but I'm open to anything!

message 6: by Andrew, Wound Up (new)

Andrew Finazzo (johnyqd) | 343 comments I might skip Extremely loud, at least two of us (me and Candise) have read it. I thought Everything is Illuminated was quite a bit better. I have both if you'd like to borrow them. I'll be putting up a poll tomorrow so anybody else feel free to throw ideas in the ring!

message 7: by Shell (new)

Shell Lee | 2 comments I'd read any of the choices, but "The End of Mr Y" and "Swamplandia" would be on the top. Suzie, I read the "The Thirteenth Tale" and really enjoyed it. "The Pillars of the Earth" is one of my very favorites.

I just finished it last night, and went straight on to "World Without End"...did you hear that he's working on another long trilogy and the second of three is due out soon? Can't wait!

Shell - if you get a chance, vote in the poll, otherwise I might have to break the tie with a die roll!

Andrew Finazzo (johnyqd) | 343 comments Michelle rolled the die this morning, our official selection is...

Tie Breaker

The Ghosts of Belfast
The Ghosts of Belfast (Jack Lennon Investigations #1) by Stuart Neville

Thanks to everyone who voted! We will bring forward some of the other selections next month as choices.
