Mandy (chaosmandy) This is our last week of having the GeekMom book club here on Goodreads. We will be moving to the GeekMom blog when the book club returns with a new format in August.

For this week though, here are the questions:
When Jenny find out that she has a rare form of rheumatoid arthritis, she starts seeking out alternative medicines to help her with the pain. What do you think about alternative medicine and Jenny’s description of going to get acupuncture? At what level of pain do you think you would consider alternatives to traditional medicine?

What were your favorite stories from this book?

Bettina | 20 comments The problem with humans is that we are not "one size fits all"... what works great for Person A gives Person B headaches, for example. I think it's worthwhile to investigate all your options and that does include "alternative medicine." I don't advocate doing potentially harmful things like fasting, but I think there's a lot to be said for massage/chiropractic therapies. I don't know about a "level" of pain, but if it was chronic I'm sure I'd be looking for anything and everything that might help.

My favorite stories were the ones with Victor - how they tackle this adventure we call Life together.

Brandy (handmaderedhead) | 4 comments I cant say what my level of pain would be before I looked for help outside of traditional medicine. I do drink herbal teas for some problems, which I guess is considered alternative. I've changed my diet instead of taking pills before too. I believe there is a place for alternative medicine. Even if it doesnt physically help the problem, mentally or spiritually, it can help. It's better than doing nothing.

I agree with Bettina, some of my favorite stories are the ones with Victor and how they deal with eachother. I think I made my way through the Post-it notes chapter with tears falling down my face from laughing.

Mandy (chaosmandy) I have daily chronic headaches. I'm in constant pain and I have been for nearly ten years. So I could understand a little what she was going through. And I did seek out alternative medicine - for me it was the chiropractor, which worked some but didn't take the pain all away. I was too chicken to try acupuncture though!

I like her stories from her childhood best - they were very entertaining.
