Kenneth Geary (KagedBooks) (kagedbooks) | 81 comments So someone told me recently that a movie was going to be made based on The Eye of the World. I tried to find something on it on-line but really only came up with red eagle entrainment bought the rights to it and a video game series years ago and no recent updates. Does anyone know anything about it? IMDB has 2013 date on it but you have to have imdb pro to access more information.

John (gigalew) | 6 comments From Wikipedia: The television and film rights to the series have been optioned several times, most recently by Universal Studios.

Ben | 113 comments i don't think a movie would be long enough. they should do it ASOIAF style and turn it into a tv show

message 4: by Kenneth (new)

Kenneth Geary (KagedBooks) (kagedbooks) | 81 comments The TV series would be able to give it better detail and be able to stick to the storyline or storylines better. It would have to be on HBO, Starz or Showtime to be worth anything though

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 78 comments The movie has been optioned, but it has been a long time since I have heard much on it. It is still in the works I am told, but I don't think it was greenlit yet.

I do think a tv series would work better, but as of now that won't be happening. Although things like this get passed around so much you never know.

Maybe it will with Game of Thrones doing so well.

ShyNight | 1 comments No matter which way they go.. Although the lengthy story might be done justice in series form.. Preferably done by HBO or Showtime as apose to the public tv stations.. No matter who runs with it.. I PRAY they don't massacre it.. At least not to much.. Keep it as is like game of thrones.. And dont televesionize it like the sword of truth series.. If not for us for Harriet Jordan's sake who will have to endure through it..

message 8: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 78 comments I am worried about that too. But if things as were before, I think Jason (Jason Denzel from Dragonmount.com) is still helping with the screenplay. If that is still moving forward, we are in good hands.

Sword of Truth was horrible. It needs to be done well, not cheesy.

Ben | 113 comments i could even see syfy doing it as a miniseries that run 2 he's per piece. i was really impressed with how they handled children of dune

They did a version of OZ called "Tin Man"

they are going to wait for the the last book to go out before making the first one. I hope they get a director who knows how to make good fantasy films and knows how to adapt book-to-script. *coughpeterjacksoncough* i know that if they get a good director and a good cast then it could make it really good. one of the problems of making wot into a film is the amount of books. harry potter had 8 movies and that was one of the most amount of movies ever to be adapted of a book series. but i think it could be done. some of the books could be melded into 1 movie.

message 12: by Ben (new)

Ben | 113 comments as good as it could be im sorry to say i do not have high hopes for the quality of any wot movie. call me a pessimist but the amount of material that would be left on the editing room floor would be massive.

message 13: by Levi (new)

Levi de Groot | 19 comments it is true it would be really hard but I didn't think that anyone could make lord of the rings into a movie and lord of the rings is now my Favourite movie, so who knows.

message 14: by Isabel (new)

Isabel | 1 comments I think that Wheel of Time would do best in a series like Game of Thrones. Lord of the Rings was made into a decent movie for the complexity of the books, but arguably, what would prevent Wheel of Time from succeeding in the same way is the fact that it's even more subtle and complex politically than even Lord of the Rings, and it's just so much longer. Having seen and read Game of Thrones, I'm impressed by what HBO has done and I really do think that a treatment like that would do Wheel of Time the most justice.

Levi de Groot | 19 comments i have heard that i might be released late 2013 and is going to be produced by Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon of Red Eagle Entertainment. This is kinda cool i don't agree with all the picks but this is what this person thinks the cast should be:http://takoren.tripod.com/id8.html

message 16: by Levi (new)

Levi de Groot | 19 comments apparently universal has the rights to the movies and is being its also being produced in part by the company that did the wheel of time graphic novels. the rumour is it will be released Q4 2013

message 17: by Mach (new)

Mach | 38 comments where did you get this information ? as far as i know they have not even written a script...

message 18: by Zdhodges (new)

Zdhodges | 1 comments AMC or SyFy would do well if we are talking non-premium cable

message 19: by Ben (new)

Ben | 113 comments i was thinking about the possibility of wheel of time movies and realized that even if they over simplified and cut out huge chunks of the story ( as most book/movie adaptations do) they would have to make at least 8 or 9 movies which realistically would take about 12 or 13 years to film and release (without any complications ). if we start with a 17 year old Rand Mat and Perrin those actors will be in thirties by the final movie. this series really does need to be done on tv or not at all.

Kathryn | 32 comments This december there is apparently going to be a documentary about Robert Jordan released. It is called "The Wit of the Staircase: The Life and Work of Robert Jordan".

message 21: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (gielske) | 40 comments I do hope they wait for amol before beginning a movie or series. So they won't mess it up by cutting details/characters which later would have been important

message 22: by Kenneth (new)

Kenneth Geary (KagedBooks) (kagedbooks) | 81 comments It would have to be after AMOL, considering there has been no filming of anything yet. and AMOL comes out in January

message 23: by Jenny (last edited Nov 05, 2012 07:09AM) (new)

Jenny (gielske) | 40 comments Yeah but who says there isn't some script writer busy writing the first parts without knowing how the entire story finishes. I don't know how well you know the series, but have you never realised how many of the important elements are in the first book (or the first 3 books) Think about Bella, Shadar Logoth, the White cloaks and Perrin (who says Bornhald won't rescue Perrin a second time), the Stories of Jain Farstrider, etc

message 24: by Kenneth (new)

Kenneth Geary (KagedBooks) (kagedbooks) | 81 comments Oh I agree there will never be a version that could cover everything from the book. But there's enough story out there that if some screenwriter Is writting something he wouldn't get to the end before amol. And as far as I've read the only rights that have been sold are the ones for teotw

message 25: by Levi (new)

Levi de Groot | 19 comments this is from wikipedia:
In a 2000 chat on CNN.com, Robert Jordan mentioned that NBC had purchased an option to do a miniseries of The Eye of the World.[38] But he expressed doubts that the series would be made stating "key people involved in getting that contract together have left NBC."[39]
On 12 August 2008, Variety reported that Universal Pictures had optioned the rights to produce feature film adaptations of The Wheel of Time books. They plan to adapt The Eye of the World as the first film.[40]

message 26: by Carla (new)

Carla | 1 comments I don't think a movie or TV series would be very good for this book series because of there not being as much action involved. You could add in more action, but to me that just ruins it for others.
