Has anyone else been eagerly awaiting the release of a new book. I recently HAD to buy;
Whispers Under Ground, by Ben Aaronovitch and
The Prisoner of Heaven, by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
the day they came out. I'm also chomping at the bit for Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness, due 10th for uk

I have requested Whispers Under Ground from the library, and Shadow of Night is on pre order on Amazon.

When I requested them from the library, there was more than 40 people in front on me for both! And that was weeks before they were released!

I can't even order Whispers Under Ground from my library yet. I'm sure they'll get it (they have the other two) but sometimes it takes a while for books to find their way onto the system. They are supposed to be available as soon as they've been ordered by the library.
Shadow of Night isn't so urgent for me, as I still haven't got around to A Discovery of Witches. So many books, so little time.

As someone who works in the library system, I have to say that many new releases are on pre order from the supplier, who may not get them from the publishers until the day of release or after. The suppliers have to then prepare the books for the library and then pack them up and send to the library concerned, which can take a few weeks. It irritates me that borrowers expect the books to be ready for them the morning of release when we have no say when the books arrive.

I saw that The Prisoner of Heaven was out, but not in a hurry to read it at the moment. I found the first sequel* to The Shadow of the Wind rather depressing (even if well narrated) and would have to get back into a melancholy mood to even consider dipping in. So much else uplifting to read first!

* Of course, it's a sort of prequel, isn't it?

Yay, Shadow of Night, out on kindle today. Problem is I've started re-reading the first book A Discovery of Witches and only half way through!

No sleep for you then till you have finished it! I have my copy calling out for me to read it, but want to save it for my long break in Sept/Oct.

Maybe that's so, but our librarians have told me that we are supposed to be able to reserve books once the library has ordered them and THEY (the librarians) are annoyed that the system isn't working properly.

I plan to read The Prisoner of Heaven in November.....I didn't love A Discovery of Witches...it was good but not great for me, and I've heard the second one isn't as good....I will wait to see after more people read it.....I almost couldn't stand Diana by the end of the first book!

Ok, I gave in and bought both new releases (at full price since I happened to be in an independent book shop who cannot compete on price with amazon and supermarkets); The Casual Vacancy, and Philip Pullman's .
I couldn't help myself, despite the fact I won't get to read them for weeks and weeks!

I have been waiting for Diana Gabaldons' In My Own Hearts Blood due out next year. She does give little glimpses on her facebook page.

I am looking forward to Paris by Edward Rutherfurd

So excited that Harry Hole continues for the next book
Police. Have to wait until September but I'm sure it's worth it

I have recently been on a bit of a book buying frenzy, I blame it on my eldest daughter going off to university and the need to keep my mind off missing her. There have been a few books released recently such as Bellman & Black: A Ghost Story, by Diane Setterfield that I've been waiting for ages, but still I eagerly (understatement) await Lost Lake, by Sarah Addison Allen and Richard Due's new Mooncoin book "THE MURK".
Anyone else chomping at the bit for new releases, or is it just me?

Still waiting for Foxglove Summer. I cant wait!!

I've been looking forward to David Nichols new book, "US", I can't find a lunk for it in here though!
Also i only just found out that there is a sequel to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children! It is Hollow City and apparantly just carries on from whete the last one finished
