I'm going to try but it's giving me terrible recommendations so not sure how many I'll really get to. Even harder since I'm trying to only read winter/Christmas books and it won't give me any recommendations from that bookshelf. Grr.Alright. I think I'm out this month too. I'm having no luck even with messing around with shelf names/etc. Just not finding any I'd really like to read and would rather spend money on my actual book shopping list than one I'm not too excited about.

Unfortunately, there's only about two books I would consider reading on my recommendations page. I'm going to have to pass this month.

This one is tough as I am in the middle of some series and want to continue them. I am glad it isn't the same as last years July challenge as I didn't have any books for that one though.6/10 Completed

Mine seemed to only want to recommend books written a decade plus ago, ones that won't be released for months or what's looking like self published books. It's not looking good for this one.
I think it's a great idea for a challenge....but I am super cheap. I own all the books I read so I'm going to swing by the used bookstore with the list of books and authors I would actually read from my recommendations and see if I can't find them. Wish me luck!
I'm in! I'm like Danielle as I usually try to read from my TBR pile, so it's gonna be an expensive month for me, but I'm hoping to get a few less expensively via ebook than paperback. I'm going to list as I go since I have over 20 pages of recommendations to go through! The good news is that I see quite a few that I've either heard of or have gotten a second glance from me before! :-)

http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/49... and add books on those lists to a shelf (you can call it "checkout Christmas" or something )but if you go to my books then make that only shelf you get recommendations for ... That should do it.
Make sure under "my books" you check/uncheck what shelves are used for recommendations column. (until I figured that one out, I was getting recommendations off my "did not finish" and "ugh never again" shelves).
Make sure to go thru and Click "not interested" and "want to read" under recommended books. That starts improving what goodreads recommends.
Create shelves and more shelves with more standard labels. My "genre paranormal" "genre fantasy" titles netted nothing but "paranormal" and "fantasy" rename worked.
Plus at right in section beneath "Recommendations by shelf" go to "community recommendations" and with "ask for recommendations" you can write a descriptive paragraph specifying what you are looking for (that nets reader responses; you can click "like" or "ignore" but if specific in your request it can really pull some right on target. Stating some favorite books in the request can help.)

Well, all I do is read (I got really sick awhile ago), so that's where all my money goes. So anyone who wants to do the challenge is free to browse my shelves and email me and I'll loan you anything you want to read. Oh! I'm e-reading on a kindle format, so that's the one hold-up. If you can use that format, email me and I'll loan it to you!

I'm sitting this one out, too. :/ My recommendations are AWFUL and I'm not ready to start 10 new series.
I'm in. As I prefer to read a series (with few acceptions) and when I go to the "Recommendations" and there is a series recommended I feel that it is for the whole series not just the one book. So I have listed more than 10 books if you count each book in the series. Which means I will mix and match as I go along and what books I end up reading will be the books I end up reading. Oh, and I'm not sure I will get done as I want to read some of my other BOM from my other groups, as well, this month ;-DJuly 2012 Monthly Reading Challenge Recommendations
1. Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost
2. The Darkest Whisper by Gena Showalter (Lords of the Underworld Series)

I have thousands of books on my shelves and added four shelves of my own. I have a wide range of interests, Contemporary, Crime, Mystery, Fantasy, Erotica, but my favourites are YA, PNR, and UF. My books aren't the problem, its the goodreads recommendations.
Okay, wait, I'm being harsh...not all of the recommendations are crummy. The YA ones look pretty good, but there's only a couple and I couldn't possibly find 10 that I'd want to read.
Could we alter the challenge to recommendations from anyone; goodreads, GR friends, friends, coworkers, family, etc?

We will call this July's Hot Summer Reads Challenge.
OPTION ONE:
The challenge is to read 10 books that appear in your Recommendation page.
To find your recommendation page, it's on the top menu between 'groups' and 'explore'.
For those who are not entirely happy with their recommendation page, you may try
OPTION TWO:
Read 4 books from your GR recommendation page
Read 4 books that were recommended to you by GR friends
Read 2 books that were recommended to you be personal friends (not from GR)
Have fun choosing and reading.
