Book Bitten discussion

This month we're reading Everneath by Brodi Ashton.

Hope you guys enjoy. (I know I've been pretty lapse with taking part in Group Reads, but I've just been struggling with timing issues and I went through a reading funk, so fingers crossed I should be joining in when I buy this book).

Overall I liked Everneath but did think it could have been even better. (view spoiler)[

The plot was interesting. Everneath was basically a mix of the Hades/Persephone and Orpheus/Eurydice myths.

I love the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. Orpheus is a really great hero!. Unfortunately here his counter part Jack is a little bland. I had a hard time believing Jack and Nikki were really so in love. Well I did up until the end of the book where Jack comes good in the amazing finale!.

Nikki was ok as the main character, even if it was a bit difficult to sympathize with her plight some of the time. Most of it's of her own making!.

Cole is the character that gives Everneath's nominal love triangle that something a little bit different. While Jack is the good guy there is no doubt that Cole is the villain. He sucks the life out of people in exchange for eternal life and does not seem to have a ton of morals. He has some feelings for Nikki but it's hard to tell how much as even he seems surprised by them.

The story itself was a little slow paced but did pick up towards the end. The Everneath and the Everlivings were fascinating and hopefully we will learn far more about them in the next few books.

The comparisons between Cole's ability to take away Nikki's pain and drug addiction were easy to make but I chose to ignore them!!. (hide spoiler)]

I have to agree with everything you said Gavin! The book definitely picked up enough for me to give it four stars even though it took a while to read and the characters weren't amazing. The ending, I just couldn't believe it!

So there are plans to write more books?

(view spoiler)[I found that I was actually rooting for Cole at certain points of the book, right until near the end because I didn't believe Jack's love either. I wonder if Cole will be brought back because I don't think it's the end of him! (hide spoiler)]

Yeah the next book is due to be released in January next year.

(view spoiler)[Cole will definitely be back to play a huge part in book two. I've just took a peek at the synopsis for it, it looks good!.

I kept waiting for Cole to do something heroic but he just never did. He would have just let her be sucked into the depths of the Everneath!.

The ending of Everneath seems a little tame now that I've just read Infinite Days. (hide spoiler)]
