Final stages of book a bit lax?

Loved this book but...
did anyone think the killings towards the ending of the book became really sloppy? For example- the six girls in the light house (i know it was to emphasise how people act irrationally when in a heightened state of paranoia but it was a bit much- all six gone just like that!) And i thought Mitsuka deserved a much better death than to be just another casualty of Kazuo's killing spree. She shouldve at least come into contact with the main 3 (Shuya etc). I think maybe the author was running out of ideas on how to get rid of them all.

i don't know why kazuo got the best gun... but i really think it didn't make much sense the way shogo died.

For me, Mitsuko's death was an example of how hubris can be your ultimate downfall. She became overconfident, sloppy, and in the end, a victim of the mindless killing machine.

I have no problem with the lighthouse scene. I think its one of the best in the book (not really praising the violence). I mean, its a great example on how people would somehow act in a paranoid state (well, you point it out yourself). About the last remaining events, lets review, after the six died, there were 8 remaining. I don't think Takami run out of ideas. Mitsuko meeting Kazuo has a high possibility of happening. There were less forbidden zones and Kazuo is always on the move and he's following gunshots all around the island. While Shuya and his group weren't even moving or using their guns; thus, I think they will be hard to find. In the case of the final events where guns were mostly use, that is understandable. Guns are the most effective killing tool in this game, players (as the game continues) will eventually learn that and acquire guns and use them. So there's no surprise if it ends in a shooting fight scene. For me, that's acceptable and something I would expect to happen.

The only thing that bothers me a bit was, why the ultimate machine gun went to Kazuo? Anybody ever thought about it?

I think the ending was very strong, though when I did read it the first time I thought that's it. But then I really thought about it, and what I really wanteed was for the book not to end. I'd grown too attached. The lighthouse scene was a lot of fun and shows the destruction that paranoia can cause.

I suspect the author forgot about Mitsuka until he was getting ready for the big show down and found he had one too many students still alive. She was never followed up on, no one even mentioned her. All through the book, most of the other students would talk about seeing someone who looked like this person or that person, but she seemed to have been unseen for the whole time, and so unimportant that no one wondered about her well being. Then she had a page an a half chapter/character development, then got shot in the head without her killer even looking at her. No one even stepped over her body after she died. A chapter devoted to her was the least the author could do for her after forgetting about her until the end.

The lighthouse section worked for me. I was actually surprised that more students didn't lose it. The only problem I had with the later part of the book was how much of a Superman Kiriyama was. I know he's got a bullet-proof vest but he's also doing flips, shooting people without looking, and surviving ludicrous carnage like some Hollywood action hero.

The lighthouse scene is an important one, since you fully understand what the slightest suspicion in a situation like that can create.

I didn't like the way Shogo died, but it suit his character not to say a thing about his injuries.
