The Widow Killer by Pavel Kohout is a good thriller from an important (though not exactly prolific) Czech writer. Kohout was one of the founding members of Charta 77 with Vaclav Havel. Another book by Kohout which I know is available in English translation is I am Snowing
Michal Ajvaz's The Other City was really something special, a book that didn't just inspire my imagination, but overwhelmed it. I'll looking forward to picking up the translation of his more recent book, The Golden Age.
The Wall: Growing Up Behind the Iron CurtainI got this for a friend for Christmas. His children liked it too.
