I'm curious about this series. I've read the other series from Hocking, My Blood Approves, and gave up on book 3. The writing was too bad, typos everywhere, I just couldn't take it anymore. I have this series and I'm not sure if I want to jump into it considering the not-so-good experience with this author.
well yeah it did have a few typos, but i overlooked them becasue it was not many. I abhor grammar mistakes and I think I found only eight. Since she is self publishing i cut her a break. She does need an editor though. It was okay as a YA read.
She's not though, self-publishing the Trylle books I mean. She has a contract with St. Martin's. I read the .99 cent books from Amazon and thought they were terrible. I couldn't bring myself to read them again when they came out in hardcover. I had hoped that St. Martin's would edit and improve the stories.

Okay I must admit it is young adult. I seem to be reading a lot of those lately. It is a good plot though. The main character is the narrator and she is not vapid and shallow. She actually cares for the people around her and does not think she is better than they are, which apparently is hard for a troll to do.
Torn changes the notion of trolls altogether. I always thought that trolls were well Shrek-like. In this book they look and act and mimic humans enough to switch out a human baby and plant their own. It is a dark concept and unforgivable but it does not take away from the human like characteristics of these trylle and the fascination of the intricacies of the trylle society. They have psychic abilities and/or they have super strength.
The book was fantastical and whimsical without being sappy. I enjoyed how the character evolved from a teen who only cared about having freedom to someone who wanted what was best for their people. it was great.
