August group read theme is a hot setting: desert, jungle, any setting that is hot.

The nominations period will be until June 17th, and the poll will go up. Sorry I was late putting this thread up (I've been absent-minded).

Nominations so far:

Instinct by Jeremy Robinson
Event by David Goleman
Congo by Michael Crichton
Chickenhawk by Robert Mason
Dark Rising by Greig Beck

Alex (goodreadscomalexsheridanwrites) | 64 comments I vote for Congo because I've never read it - I just finished reading up on Michael Crichton and am more intrigued than ever about this wonderful writer and person we lost way too soon.

I've always loved Michael Crichton...I've read a lot of his stuff and Congo is one of my very favorites. It is very sad that he has passed away.

Kevin (spiralcity) Yes, I have read Congo. It's a decent read. I dont think it's one of Crichton's best, but it wasnt bad.

Anthony Bellaleigh (anthonybellaleigh) | 76 comments Here's a slightly off-the-wall suggestion... Jungle setting, plenty of action, gritty and at times gruesome. I remember it as a great advertisement that there is nothing good or glamorous that comes from warfare.

Chickenhawk by Robert Mason

"Robert Mason's bestselling account of his service as a chopper pilot in Vietnam--a no-holds-barred autobiography that reveals the war's shattering legacy in the heart of a returning vet."

I've always had a fascination with books about Military History. Chickenhawk sounds like an interesting one to add to my TBR list. Thanks Anthony for the suggestion!
