The Infernal Devices discussion

So, recently I have read many new teasers from Cassandra Clare's Infernal Devices regarding the third installment.
Here are a few:
1) Tessa put a hand against the wall as she made her way numbly down the stairs. What had she almost done? What had she nearly told Will?

2) Tessa craned her head back to look at Will. “You know that feeling,” she said, “when you are reading a book, and you know that it is going to be a tragedy; you can feel the cold and darkness coming, see the net drawing tight around the characters who live and breathe on the pages. But you are tied to the story as if being dragged behind a carriage and you cannot let go or turn the course aside.” His blue eyes were dark with understanding — of course Will would understand — and she hurried on. “I feel now as if the same is happening, only not to characters on a page but to my own beloved friends and companions. I do not want to sit by while tragedy comes for us. I would turn it aside, only I struggle to discover how that might be done.”

“You fear for Jem,” Will said.

“Yes,” she said. “And I fear for you, too.”

“No,” Will said, hoarsely. “Don’t waste that on me, Tess.”

3)(Will and Jem meet for the first time–from Prologue)
“You are not really dying,” Will said, the oddest tone to his voice, “are you?”

4) Gideon touched her cheek, lightly, with the tips of his fingers. “Did you know your name means ‘wisdom’? It was very well-given.”

5) Will rose slowly to his feet. He could not believe he was doing what he was doing, but it was clear that he was, clear as the silver rim around the black of Jem’s eyes. “If there is a life after this one,” he said, “let me meet you in it, James Carstairs.”

“There will be other lives.” Jem held his hand out, and for a moment, they clasped hands, as they had done during their parabatai ritual, reaching across twin rings of fire to interlace their fingers with each other. “The world is a wheel,” he said. “When we rise or fall, we do it together.”

Will tightened his grip on Jem’s hand, which felt thin as twigs in his. “Well, then,” he said, through a tight throat, “since you say there will be another life for me, let us both pray I do not make as colossal a mess of it as I have this one.”

6) And the gold of her ruined wedding dress.

7) Jem knotted his fingers in the material of Will’s sleeve. “You are my parabatai,” he said. “You said once I could ask anything of you.”

Now here are the unidentified snippets that made me go crazy:

1) He stopped dead. “Tessa told you?” he said.

2) his parabatai rune was bleeding

3) Marry me today.

4) To my son,

If you are reading this letter, then I am dead.

5) Will’s hand looked brown and sunburnt by contrast, their fingers dovetailed together like piano keys.

6) He kissed each finger, and with each one of them spoken a word. Five kisses, five words. His last.

7) “Do you think there’s a chance for him?”

“A chance for who?”

“Will. To be happy.”

“Is there a chance for you to be happy if he isn’t?”


8)Jem leaned closer against the chair, staring into the fire. “Better it were my hands,” he said.

Will shook his head. Exhaustion was muting the edges of everything in the room, blurring the flocked wallpaper into a single mass of dark color. “No. Not your hands. You need your hands for the violin. What do I need mine for?”

9) Not your parabatai any longer.

10) “You’re in my bones and my blood and my heart,” he said. “I’d have to tear myself open to let you go.”

11) “You are the Lightwoods — you are all that is left of the Lightwoods.”

12) “Oh, God, the lovebirds,” Magnus said, pulling the pillow off his face. “I hate happy couples.”

So stressful

the last one makes me laugh, thinking of magnus in MI. he hates happy couples huh?

i know that the 4) is refering to Sophia

and the 4) from the undefined snipits is from Stephens' Letter to jace

but yes, this is stresfull

This is not really that stressful, considering, well, that one of the boys is going to die. Ah. But it's heart-wrenching and saddening. Makes me want to cry...

Also, I really don't like Will putting himself down all the time. Like in teasers 2 and 8

When I read teaser 5 I felt so sad! I mean why couldn't he believe what he was going to do? and what was it?

I know Will and Jem are close but they don't just randomly hold hands, something important definitely happens here.

I don't want anyone to die but if someone does I'm pretty sure Cassie will make their last words really memorable.

So many possibilites for what the five last words could be:

I will meet you again (something Jem might say)

Take care of Tessa for me (either one could say this, although i must admit it sounds cheesy)

But we must remember that it is an unidentified teaser so there might still be hope for the TID boys, it might be from CoHF.

Personally I hope it's Jonathon saying:

Yeah Jem and will dont hold hands, so yes something important happens!

Yeah last words.... I can't imagine that! Gosh it sounds so sad!! But maybe it's not Jem or will, maybe it's someone else? Like Henry? I don't want anyone to die including Henry but I'd cry less if it were Henry. But I know it is inevitable. I personally do feel like either both boys will die, or Tessa won't end up with either. However I do hold a thread of hope!! Maybe just maybe... *sigh*

For the first unidentified snippet, I thought it was the bed scene, and Tessa overturn the Yin Fen. And Will went to buy another packet, ya know. And Jem was like, 'Tessa told ya?' And Will was like, 'What?'

Oh. And I like the second snippet. The bleeding parabatai rune one. Ahaha. Tessa, you're sooo dead. Ahahaha...

I'm convinced this is Will saying it to Jem, because Jem is like a part of Will so he will have a really tough time letting jem go.

Also, does anyone know if Gabriel and Gideon are parabatai?

well in this snippet jem is staring at the fire so i thought their hand are goin to be burned...and besides to become a silent brother don't u get this rune that makes you look ugly and takes away your voice...but improves your mind capacity and don't silent brothers live longer than most shadowhunters...so this made me think maybe the rune also makes your body stronger and in turn speeds the healing process...just a theory

So don't rule Will out completely...yet...

I think they are mortals with longer lives e.g Brother Enoch is in both books but will die eventually.

I think the third unidentified snippet for some reason is Jace proposing to Clary or Jem rushing the wedding due to his unfortunate...demon poisioning.
I want Will to become Brother Zachariah and is "dismissed" after he is replaced and he reunites with Tessa in COHF.

and I don't know if this one is up there yet but here's another teaser:

does this snippet sound like a dream to anyone??

.....Yes.....I don't want it to, though! I think like, right before Jem and Tessa get married, it's interrupted by automotons. That's what happens in my fanfiction one so I hope I'm right!

Although it is a happy snippet, I can't help but feel there is something quite eerie about it..like it's just a little too calm and quiet. I feel like an automaton could just turn up any moment from behind the hill and disrupt it all.

If it is a dream then I think when he reaches out for her and touches nothing, he wakes up :(

He reached for her...but suddenly, her figure began to morph, taking the shape of Jem. His eyes bored into Will, wide and sorrowful. "How could you?" he asked, his voice hard and strained. "How could you?"
Will lurched forward, his heart hammering in his chest. Just a dream, he thought, wiping the sweat that beaded on his forehead. But Will could not help but think, he's right, how could I?

Something like that? (BTW, this isn't the real continuation.)

Oh my flippin gosh! All of these heart stopping teasers are killing me! I don't want Jem to die at all, but it's inevitable, but I want Tess to help him through it and make sure that he knows she loves him. Ugh! And Will. Sweet, tortured Will. I wish he didn't have to suffer as much as he let himself be that way. All this masochistic nature is just exhausting. I just want everyone to be friggin happy and no one die, but sadly, that is not the case... I really hope that Jem gets to live the moment that he never thought he would have, which is to get married to Tessa, before it's too late. And I want Will to get some kind of happy ending. I just can't wait anymore! Blah! I have to know what happens! And no matter who Tessa ends up with ( I REALLY want it to be Jem!)I just want everyone to get some kind of love out of this dang story. *Sigh* Okay, I'm done now. =)

The last teaser must be about Jem! Because in the new series- the dark artifices- the main characters last name is Carstairs- so obviously Jem has a child and she is the descendant of it!!

That is exactly what I thought, and I almost passed out from excitement!!!!!!! =D I hoe it's true. That would be the best thing to happen to Jem, to have his legacy live on. Awwwwwwwuh!

Tessa saw Will’s hand tighten on Jem’s sleeve. “She’s here,” he said.
Jem’s eyes opened slowly. Tessa fought to keep the look of shock from her face. His pupils were blown out, his irises a thin ring of silver around the black. “Ni shou shang le ma, quin ai de?” (are you hurt, my love?) he whispered.

It's so hard to stop myself from screaming in the library when i read these teasers

That's a good question. i also dont know if Gideon and Gabriel are parabatai...

On number 1. tessa almost said something to Will. Could it be that she found out what she really is and she cannot tell anybody?

On the unidentified snippet:
number 1: I hope this is with Will asking Jem. maybe Jem guess what is really going on between Tessa and Will and he is catching the truth from Will...

Number 7: im thinking that after Jem dies, Will was devastated and this is TEssa talking to Magnus...

about parabatai, i remember somewhere in MI, it was said that Robert Lightwoods parabatai is MIchael Wayland and that is the reason why they adopted Jace in the first place. so this just prove that if your parabatai dies you can still continue to live. i just dont know if you will be given again a chance to have a new one.

This book needs to come out NOW!
