Historical novels are great when they bring the characters to life. Where we can live and breath with them, no matter the deed. The characters can have good and bad moments, because that is how most people are in life. Historical novels need to grasp the time period with both hand while they surround us with the descriptions of life. AND they must have some historical truth and relevance to the historical thoughts and belief systems of the time. Michelle Moran is quite gifted at this as is Kate Quinn. Both write kick ass historical fiction!
This is my review of her book....Imagine having to marry Napoleon. That is what happened to Marie-Louise when she was eighteen, a pawn in Napoleon's desire to rule the world. Despite her love for another she goes and is swept into a world that teeters on the edge. The Second Empress by Michelle Moran shows that world through three voices: Napoleon's sister Paulette, who was very interesting, probably delusional; Paul, a chamberlain of the robe for Paulette; and Marie-Louise, the second wife. Marie-Louise's job is to present Napoleon an heir. Each voice presents the story with their own insight and flare. As the story unfolds, the readers is allowed to be a fly on the wall in France.
I enjoyed this book and found it to be a fast read. I did not think I would find the story line interesting as I have not read anything about Napoleon's time. I was wrong. The author not only caught and held my attention, she used real information to build the story, which only added to the realism of the story.
Another great book by Michelle Moran.

I have read nothing by this author.
I want to read a historical fiction that will make me want to research the facts for myself and this one did that. With any Historical Fiction an author is going to take some liberties and I for one don’t mind this at all.I have read and very much enjoyed all of Michelle Moran's books
