If they made a movie of this, who would you cast as the main characters?

Crocodile on the Sandbank
Amelia: Helena Bonham Carter
Emerson: Timothy Dalton

unknowns. I get sick and tired of the same actors in movie after movie. And Amelia is curvy, not anorexic--not that this stops hollywood from turning every female character into a ugly size 0.

Cate Blanchett could do a great job, so could British actress Anne-Marie Duff. Emerson could be played by Rhys Ifans, Tim Roth or Gary Oldman.

I definitely agree with Helena Bonham Carter. Hadn't thought of Timothy Dalton, he might be too old, though he does have the look. How about Hugh Jackman?

I'd love to see this book series turned into a movie. There is certainly enough good material to work with here.

When I read the book recently, I started picturing Emerson as Benedict Cumberbatch. He has the ability to be gruff but also tender that I think Emerson needs. I didn't have such a clear picture of the other characters. Even though I know very well that she's not, Amelia always drifts towards an elderly woman in my mind. She certainly has the diction of one!

When I read an Amelia Peabody book it's like visiting an old friend. I love the writing and the characters. I would love to see this made into a movie. I don't know who I'd pick for the parts.

Emma Thompson would be great as Amelia, but sadly I think she is a bit too old for the part. I would go with Helena Bonham Carter.

Would be great as a series, a new mystery every episode. The characters age as the books progress so don't know who to play characters, but see them as mainly 40 somethings.

Julia Sawalha as Amelia Peabody, still thinking about Emerson.

For Amelia, I could see Anya Chalotra, who is currently playing Yennifer on The Witcher series. For Emerson, I would say Gerald Butler.

I always picture a young Alfred Molina as Emerson.

with the proper cast and director, this could be such a fun series! I agree with Zora, find two talents not yet well known. The Crocodile on the Sandbank was my favorite of all the Amelia Peabody series, but Ms. Peters did a fantastic job of developing the characters and weaving the plots.

I could see a young Harrison Ford, although the character is more acerbic and less humorous. The female needs to be curvy and sort of rigidly feminist I think..I'm not familiar enough with young actresses, but it would be fun for the characters to age as the series was done in movies.
