Subtitles are not considered in any of our challenges. It's the main title only.

I did like it. There were some parts that dragged on a bit for me. I have a son starting High School in a year, who already had had his challenges with social cliques in 7th grade and some of the things about how our school system operates in the US mirrored exactly what i think of it too. It's so hard to support and encourage a child to be who they are in a system that pushes for and rewards conformity. I would have liked to know more about the kids that were the focus AFTER high school, but all in all it was a pretty decent read.

I kind of figured that, so i didn't count them anyway :)
I'm glad i joined too, and although i only committed myself to 7 books i keep running across books to read extra as well. I love looking at books and trying to figure out what to read from a different perspective.
I've committed to reading the 7 books as well. If I can fit any others in, that will just be a bonus. :)
I think these will be my august A task books
and
Both have been on my to read shelf for a while now.
I can't wait to hear what you think about Henrietta Lacks. That book keeps crossing my field of vision.Oh Kat and Kimberley, we have another Zombie lover. Where IS Kimberley anyway? Did the Zombies bite her?
Henrietta Lacks has been hanging out in in my books "I swear I'm going to read soon because i really DO want to" but with my book ADD I start to read something and then it's just a matter of how long it takes for "ooooh look a squirrel" to hit and I'm off on another genre or pretty cover. And Zombies.....i love my Zombies. Funny, scary, ridiculously overdone....it doesn't matter to me.
I loved Henrietta Lacks. It's a great blending of the scientific and the personal. The science is explained so it's understandable, the uses of the HeLa cells are amazing, and you've got to see the pictures. The family's story is heartbreaking in so many ways, Henrietta's life and death, and her family's situation. Definitely worth reading!

I really found this book interesting, like jaxnsmom said above, its a pretty good blend of scientific and personal, and the science is in layman's terms and easy to understand and put into perspective. Amazing how much came to be from a few tiny cells taken from one woman. On to Zombies and Newberys for me!!!(and hopefully something for the toppler)

Are we in danger of being overrun by zombies? Juding from the lack of my typing skills, and how many times I had to retype this, I may becoming one.
earlier today I was wishing i could find somewhere to fit this in on my rainbow
I'll just have to fit it in somewhere else
Janice wrote: "Are we in danger of being overrun by zombies? Juding from the lack of my typing skills, and how many times I had to retype this, I may becoming one."I think you are safe Janice, otherwise your sentence would have ended with .........braaaiiiiins
Have you read, or sang,
? Hysterical. And a great way to freak your friends out at Christmas when you sneak up behind them and start singing “I Saw Mommy Chewing Santa Claus” or “Deck the Halls with Parts of Wally", and plenty of other favorites. Valentines Day, a romantic getaway? No problem.
Just the thing to set the mood :)

Yes it was 585 pages. The first 200 felt VERY long. I was planning on Shadow of Night and have it on hold at the library. Hopefully it wont take to long to get.

Ok, time to get serious here. I am 1 yellow book short of my first rainbow, and for the second I still need a red, yellow, indigo, and a violet. Hmmm, with 2 months of group reads, at least 1 more challenge and my 2 buddy reads I may have to start perusing the kids bookshelf again to fill in a couple gaps.
I thought it was great. My son and I also watched it in cartoon form and George Clooney was the voice of Mr Fox. It was great too.

I have discovered in this process that I really love Roald Dahl books. I think I'm going to read Matilda for my other yellow.
WOO HOO! You are on fire!!! ; ) Burning up those books! Roald Dahl is fantastic! Have you read the BFG? It stands for Big Friendly Giant! Super book!!
I have that one on my bookshelf.....keep trying to read it to my 8 year old, or get him to read it but he is resistant. I'm just going to read it myself one of these days. I REALLY thought he would like The Witches, but lately if it isn't about Starwars or Ninjago he is pretty much uninterested. My baby however is going to be my reader.......he LOVES books.
