he is in his late 20s,but he has a gang of little kids who need money to go look for stuff,like in the sign of 4 he sent them to go look for a boat,then when they told him what they found he paid them and they left since bpeople tend to hold their tongue around him

and he was a doctor in the war but he was all hurt and they sent him back,a old coleage showed him sherlock to share rent and yada yada,but he was always just a firend and roommate to sherlock,not a detective(and sherlock dont say'elementary my dear watson' almost at all,he says'its simplicity itself' every other page....just fyi)
