Scott Clements (scottclements) | 43 comments I just released my adventure book Gasparilla's Treasure in audio book. Did you know you can get a free copy with a 30 day free trial to audible.com. Not only that, you get a free bonus audio book of your choice, and some other perks. Check out the offer on Amazon, here:

http://www.amazon.com/Gasparillas-Tre...

I am a long time user of audible, and absolutely love it. If you've ever wanted to check out audiobooks, this is the perfect chance. And if you haven't, you might find it in your heart to help an independent author by taking advantage of this free audio book offer. That's right... If you download the book for free, I still get my royalty. Crazy right?

Scott Clements (scottclements) | 43 comments And so I won't be starting this topic just to be shamelessly self promoting myself...

The "Peter and The Starcatchers" series is absolutely fantastic in audio book. The narrator, Jim Dale, is such an amazing talent. He also narrated the Harry Potter books.

I also enjoyed the entire "Ender's Game" world in audio book, although I think that's pushing into young adult, and not middle grade.

I recently listened to "Kane Chronicles Red Pyramid" and the narrators did a fantastic job with that one... Very enjoyable. Although I wasn't a huge fan of the book.

Anyone else listen to middle grade in audio book?

This summer, I've been commuting to my teaching jobs, 30-40 minutes away. Listening to middle grade fictions means my daughter can listen with me when she's in the car. Who am I kidding? I love the stuff and it's inspiring when I ask kids to write. We just finished Magyk (Septimus Heap, #1) by Angie Sage now starting the second in series. We're also reading Little Women (Little Women #1) by Louisa May Alcott and The Nixie's Song (Beyond the Spiderwick Chronicles, #1) by Holly Black which the series after Spiderwick Chronicles.

Elizabeth (elizabethsbooks) If I might recommend The Case of the Missing Marquess (Enola Holmes Mysteries, #1) by Nancy Springer The Enola Holmes Mysteries in audio book format. The book series is wonderful but I noticed that the author makes cockney accents a little hard to read. When listening to the audio book however the accent is no problem and the narrator Katherine Kellgren really shines.

I love to recommend this book to girl's who need mysteries or historical fiction reads.

Annie Oosterwyk I always recommend Eoin Colfer's audiobook, Benny and Omar. The reader does a fantastic job with the accents. It is laugh out loud funny in parts and still manages to be thought provoking overall. The main character is a hurley player, a game I had never heard of before reading this book, and the commentary he gives about attending Catholic school is hilarious.

Love audio! All Tamora Pierce's great fantasy novels are on audio and almost all available through the library (Overdrive). Some are Full Cast Audio, which is a lot of fun.

I really need to follow up on the options for getting my book on audio. Would like to read it myself, but can't afford equipment or studio time,so will probably go with profit-sharing.

I totally understand your situation. Fortunately, in addition to be an author, I'm also a voice actor and am able to record my own works. It's amazing how far the sales exceed e-book revenues. I have sold three times more audio books on ACX than e-books on Amazon and Samashwords combined. http://www.amazon.com/Treasure-Heart/...

Shonica (scrapcat) I listen to audio books all the time and am a huge fan of audible.com.
Recently I listened to Home of the Brave by Katherine Applegate and strongly recommend it.
I also love Nation by Terry Pratchett. The Tiffany Aching series by Terry Pratchett is also wonderful, though some kids may not be able to understand the accents of the Nac Mac Feegle, it is certainly worth the attempt. They are a hoot!
Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book is one of my favorite listens.

Shonica, that's a good point about accents. We tried once to listen to one of the Redwall books in the car, but the accents, combined with the extra noise in the car, made it just too hard, especially for the boys.

M.G. King (mgking) | 727 comments For Tolkien fans, try Rob Inglis's reading of The Hobbit. It's brilliant! He has the most beautiful singing voice.
