Alphas is an original Syfy series. To quote Wikipedia, "The series follows a group of people with superhuman abilities, known as "Alphas", as they work to prevent crimes committed by other Alphas. ...The series follows five people, known as "Alphas", led by noted neurologist and psychologist Dr. Lee Rosen as they investigate criminal cases involving other suspected Alphas. Rosen and his team of Alphas operate under the auspices of the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, the criminal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Defense."

Our version:
The Alpha phenomenon is currently undiscovered. There is no team tracking rouge Alphas. Alphas are trying to escape detection and pass off as normal humans. Mostly, they are looking for other Alphas, trying to figure out whether or not they are alone. As they start to meet and gather up, we will go from there. This is set in the United States, in a fictional, nameless city.

There are several types of Alphas. So far known are:


—Biochemical Thermal-Reactive : BTR Alphas produce binary chemicals which react at different points of excretion on the Alpha's body such as the Alpha's palms to produce a violent thermal reaction capable of starting intense conflagrations. This ability is not unlike the defense of the Bombardier Beetle.

—Electroconductive : Electroconductive Alphas possess a significantly higher conductivity resistance to electricity, allowing them to not only withstand massive currents of electricity, but may also possess the ability to interact with electronic signals, redirect electricity, project electricity, or similar abilities. Electroconductive Alphas cannot generate their own electricity.

—Electrogenic : Electrogenic Alphas are able to generate electrical pulses capable of shutting down all electrical devices within a couple of blocks radius. (Traits: aggressive, quick thinking)

—Empathetic Contagion : Can pass their emotions on to others and make the target feel what they are feeling.

—Hyperadrenal : Hyperadrenal Alphas are able to utilize the fight-or-flight response to increase their strength and speed for short periods of time, before becoming a danger to the Alpha. The strength exhibited by hyperadrenal Alphas is sufficient to move a SUV, while the speed has been shown to have been able to catch up to a moving vehicle. When the adrenaline rush ends, Hyperadrenals become listless and physically drained. (Traits: exceptionally strong, egotistical, tempermental, feeble heart; Analysis: Hyperadrenals are known to have quick tempers, particularly in stressful situations. Hyperadrenals are extremely confident individuals who are not team players. These types of Alphas believe their best work can be done solo.)

—Hyperkinetic : For Hyperkinetics the mind's imaging systems and muscle control are perfectly in tune with the motor skills center of the brain. Hyperkinetics possess flawless aim, perfect balance, and greatly enhanced motor skills. (Traits: emotional, athletic, suspicious, unmotivated; Analysis: Hyperkinetics tend to have a deep mistrust in authority and typically resist seeking help with emotional and psychological problems. Hyperkinetics create troubling situations for themselves by not accepting assistance when needed.)

—Influencer : Influencers are able to disrupt the specific neural pathways in the cerebral cortex that leave the brain vulnerable to suggestion. In short: They always get what they want. (Traits: sophisticated, convincing, intuitive, self-indulgent; Analysis: Influencers have addictive personalities and are extremely comfortable with their abilities. Influencer often use their strengths at the wrong time and sometimes take others for granted.)

—Morphogene : Morphogenes have the ability to alter every aspect of their physical appearance, including their voice — though it can cause pain to hold a disguise for too long. (Traits: acting skills; Analysis: Morphogenes can alter their body structure vocal cords and bone structure. How they can do this is currently unknown it is likely that they need to make eye contact for several seconds to get the structure and vocal structure right.)

—Proprioceptive Inhibitor : Proprioceptive alphas are able to take advantage of the human "blind spot". Because human beings have two eyes, the optic nerve has to translate two sets of data into a single, three-dimension image. The spacing of our eyes allows for a gap in this data. Griffin's Alpha ability affects other people's optic nerves, expanding the blind spot to accommodate their size. (Analysis: This type of alpha has been noted as antisocial, they don't appear to like being watched.)

—Quantitative Aptitudinal : Quantitative Aptitudinal Alphas are able to thoroughly and completely understand any and all technology. They have a knack for inventing the unthinkable; usually devices decades ahead of their time. They can be improvisational when inventing, efficiently constructing what they need with existing resources in their surroundings. (Traits: extremely intelligent, goal oriented, nonsocial)

—Sonic : Sonic alphas lack optic nerves. To compensate for their lack of optical nerves, they have the ability of echolocation. They create sonic sound waves to help them see. They can also use the sound waves to pop blood vessels and slowly degrade material.

—Synesthete : Synesthete Alphas are able to enhance one of their five senses such as sight or sound, while rendering the remaining senses temporarily useless — often leaving them vulnerable to danger. (Traits: passive, methodical, academic, fearful; Analysis: Out of all the Alphas, Synesthetes are typically the least comfortable with their abilities. Synesthetes tend to be people pleasers and will do anything to avoid confrontation. Their blindingly precocious nature tends to put Synesthetes in dangerous situations.)

—Transducer : Transducer''' Alphas are human antennas that have the ability to intercept communications and encrypted messages with their minds. They can literally "see" electromagnetic wavelengths but have also been shown to hear noises produced from the frequencies that even a synesthete can't hear. (Traits: sensitive, irritable, intelligent; Analysis: Transducers can read a wide range of frequencies but can become easily overwhelmed when they are unable to turn these signals off. Using this ability also produces headaches if the person uses it continuously for extended periods of time. Transducers can see wavelengths in colors and shapes. Phones and other electronics can be penetrated or hacked by Transducers.)

—Translator : Translator Alphas have a deep and thorough understanding of all languages' syntax and form, able to translate and understand any language. In many ways, they are living Rosetta Stones.
