Jeanne I had picked up "Shadow Show" prior to it being announced as August's book read. I was planning on reading it after I had read "The Five" but I read one story and I was hooked. I am about half way through and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite collections. Just a few of the highlights for me (so far...), "Children of the Bedtime Machine", "Young Pilgrims" and"Headlife" but I have loved all the stories.

I've started reading Shadow Show too, but I'm only three stories in. I enjoyed all three. I had previously read "Children of the Bedtime Machine," which I think is one of McCammon's best short stories.

Sounds good nice title.

Todd Russell (toddrussell) | 16 comments I just finished The Five and am working on my review in my head. Will say I find it fascinating the business conflicts discussed by the characters in the book (Nomad saying he is a party band type of musician, for example) and Mr. McCammon's real world author struggles being pigeonholed as a writer of horror by his original publishers, when he seems to want to be known as simply a great writer.

King can write in any genre and big business will slop it up, I wish McCammon was given the same respect.

I totally agree with you, Todd.

Jeanne I have finished "Shadow Show". Honestly there were a couple stories I just flat out didn't like but most left me perfectly creeped out. This may now be my favorite short story collection. If anyone else has given this a read, let me know and we can compare favorites on the spoilers page. Maybe someone can explain a couple stories I just didn't understand. Oh and FIVE stars from me.

Back to "The Five".
