"You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you."
“Books so special and rare and yours that advertising your affection feels like a betrayal.”“Oh, I wouldn't mind, Hazel Grace. It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you.”
I love all the quotations listed. Here's another one I'm fond of (which can be applied to TFIOS):“Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.”
"Oh I wouldn't mind, Hazel Grace. it would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you." It's such a risk to allow yourself to fall in love with someone, but so worth it....!
“It's just that most really good-looking people are stupid, so I exceed expectations.''Right, it's primarily his hotness,' I said.
'It can be sort of blinding,' he said.
'It actually did blind our friend Isaac,' I said.
'Terrible tragedy, that. But can I help my own deadly beauty?'
'You cannot.'
'It is my burden, this beautiful face.'
'Not to mention your body.'
'Seriously, don't even get me started on my hot bod. You don't want to see me naked, Dave. Seeing me naked actually took Hazel Grace's breath away,' he said, nodding toward the oxygen tank.”
I tied pages 111-113 to the entire book now i'm writing a literary essay. Here is my favorite quote:“Not marble, nor the gilded monuments / Of princes, shall outlive this powerful rhyme; / But you shall shine more bright in these contents /
Than unswept stone, besmear’d with sluttish time.”
which actually is from the poem Bard’s Fifty-fifth sonnet.
Ellen wrote: ""Oh I wouldn't mind, Hazel Grace. it would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you." It's such a risk to allow yourself to fall in love with someone, but so worth it....!"
I love that one!
what video is this quote from:
“…because nerds like us are allowed to be unironically enthusiastic about stuff… Nerds are allowed to love stuff, like jump-up-and-down-in-the-chair-can’t-control-yourself love it. Hank, when people call people nerds, mostly what they’re saying is ‘you like stuff.’ Which is just not a good insult at all. Like, ‘you are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness’.”

My favorite TFIOS quote is probably either"lonely, vaguely pedophiliac swingset seeks the butts of children"
or
"There are infinite numbers between 0 and 1. There's .1 and .12 and .112 and an infinite collection of others. Of course, there is a bigger infinite set of numbers between 0 and 2, or between 0 and a million. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities. A writer we used to like taught us that. There are days, many of them, when I resent the size of my unbounded set. I want more numbers than I'm likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful.”
My favorite Vlogbrothers John Green quote is
"Saying 'I notice your a nerd' is like saying, 'Hey, I notice that you'd rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you'd rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Lindsay Lohan. Why is that?' In fact, to me, it seems like most contemporary insults are pretty lame. Even 'lame' is kind of lame. Saying 'You're lame' is like saying 'You walk with a limp.' Yeah, whatever, so does 50 Cent, and he's done pretty alright for himself."
“What else? She is so beautiful. You don’t get tired of looking at her. You never worry if she is smarter than you: You know she is. She is funny without ever being mean. I love her. I am so lucky to love her, Van Houten. You don’t get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices. I hope she likes hers.”
"I'm in love with you," he said quietly."Augustus," I said.
"I am," he said. He was staring at me, and I could see the corners of his eyes crinkling. "I'm in love with you, and I'm not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I'm in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we're all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we'll ever have, and I am in love with you."
— John Green (The Fault in Our Stars)
"I just did some calculations and I've been able to determine that you're full of shit."— John Green (Looking for Alaska)
The world is not a wish granting factory.
"The important thing is not whatever nonsense the voices are saying, but what the voices are feeling."
LFA: "to be continued..."TFIOS: The marks people leave in this world are too often scars.
TFIOS: "You daughter's car has been egged by a blind man. Please go back inside or I'll be forced to call the police."
“But there are a thousand ways to look at it: maybe the strings break, or maybe our ship s sink, or maybe we're grass--our roots so interdependent that no one is dead as long as someone is still alive. We don't suffer from a shortage of metaphors, is what I mean. But you have to be careful which metaphor you choose, because it matters.” ― John Green, Paper Towns
So many!!! Some infinities are greater than other infinities
The marks humans leave are to often scars
That's the thing about pain, it demands to be felt
My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations
These are some of my favourites
It would probably be either "My thoughts are stars I can't fathom into constellations" because I can relate to it a bit. I have so many crazy thoughts in my mind (sometimes even deep ones) but I can never put them together into perfect pieces to give them even a little bit of sense.I also like "I'm on a roller coaster that only goes up".
Basically, I pretty much like almost everything Augustus Waters says, because almost everything he says are quote-worthy. For me anyway :)
"When the scientists of the future show up at my house with robot eyes and they tell me to try them on, I will tell the scientists to screw off because I do not want to see a world without him" - Isaac, TFIOS :)
Nerds are allowed to love stuff, like jump-up-and-down-in-the-chair-can’t-control-yourself love it. Hank, when people call people nerds, mostly what they’re saying is ‘you like stuff.’ Which is just not a good insult at all. Like, ‘you are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness’. -JG
"That’s part of what I like about the book in some ways. It portrays death truthfully. You die in the middle of your life, in the middle of a sentence"

Mine is: "As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep; Slowly, and then all at once."
That imagery is just so perfect!! Not to mention relatable.
