Toby (tfitoby) I haven't read enough to list five but I'm astounded that Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets hasn't been named by both people so far.

That one looks interesting Toby...I'll check that one out too! I can see my TBR growing very quickly with you about;P

Toby (tfitoby) My suggestion is to ignore everything I say. I cannot be held responsible for owning so many books, it's just a compulsion that I cannot control. But whenever I get a copy of Homicide in the shop I always tell people it is the single greatest pice of crime journalism ever committed to a book. Plus it has the added bonus of having been turned in to a seminal piece of 90s television and helping the author to create the greatest crime show to ever leave America - The Wire.

At this point they usually leave quickly, their eyes glazing over.

Haha!! Where do you work Toby? It sounds like a bookstore, and oh, what a wonderful job:)

message 6: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) Secondhand bookstore Elizabeth's Bookshops. Technically I am unemployed through choice to focus on creative things but I can't resist the "we're short staffed please help" calls and so part time casual bookstore work continues to make me happy.

Maggie I dont read a lot of 'true' crime or non fiction crime, but I do remember being haunted by Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders the story of Charles Manson. Still shiver. Recently I've enjoyed Bloodstain: The Vanishing Of Peter Falconio and The Needle In The Heart Murder: The Mysterious Death Of Dr Yeates. I'm about to read JonBenet: Inside the Ramsey Murder Investigation.

JB Rowley (jbrowley) I can offer four. I have read so many but - dashed if I can remember them all.
Almost Perfect: The True Story of the Crawford Family Murders
This man murdered his wife and young children in their house in Melbourne (1970s) and then disappeared.

Dying For Daddy: A True Story of Family Killer Jack Barron
This man killed his wife and two young children and then planted trees in their honour.

Never Enough
American couple in Hong Kong living the good life until the wife decides to get rid of the husband. She actually kept his body rolled up in a carpet in their flat where she lived with their young children until the smell became too overpowering.

Gun Alley
Colin Campbell Ross was hanged for something he didn’t do because witnesses lied for their own malicious reasons.

The Stranger Beside Me: Ted Bundy The Shocking Inside Story by Ann Rule Is that the correct one Jessica?

The Human Predator: A Historical Chronicle of Serial Murder and Forensic Investigation by Katherine Ramsland

message 21: by Aimee (new)

Aimee | 7 comments I love the books by Helen Garner. Helen follows the court trial in a criminal matter in each book, and interviews the friends/family of those involved. It is a really interesting view on the judicial process in Australia - and they are great debate starters! I am never sure whether the accused actually did it (thank god I'm not on the jury) :).

These are the ones I have read so far:-
Joe Cinque's Consolation, A True Story of Death, Grief and the Law

This House of Grief
