Derrik walked in, looking around with a frown, and set his stuff down with a sigh on a bed. He looked around once more before leaving, headed towards the woods.
Irvine walked into the cabin and looked around. There was only one bed that was taken so far. He carried his stuff over to the bunk beds closest to the window. He decided to go ahead and claim both beds. There was no way that he was going to share his space with someone else. Besides it was for their own good. He tossed his bag on the bottom bed then carefully burned away the top bunk. He he was finished he smiled at the charred wood. It made the perfect dragon nest. With that Irvine turned and walked out of the cabin.
After running through the woods collecting some things, he returned to the cabin. "Hey," he said to the other person there. He dropped the things he was carrying. It was an odd assortment of twigs, leaves, and a few small dead animals.
Derrik blinked, looking over at someone he had never seen before. "Um... hi?" he said, frowning a little at what he brought into the cabin.
"Hello," Irvine replied. "Don't worry. There won't be any smell from these," he held to the creatures. "It's a bad habit my great-granddad started." He worked quickly with the materials. Then he groaned, and picked everything up and rushed outside. Nothing could be seen of what he was doing except smoke floating past the window. After a few minutes, he came back in and held up a dream catcher.
Derrik blinked, looking at him with a small frown. "What is that?" he wondered, tilting his head to one side with curiosity.
"It's called a dream catcher." Irvine told the other boy hanging his creation on the wall. "The story goes that if you put one of these above your bed, it will keep bad dreams away."
Derrik frowned. "Hmm... I might need one of those," he muttered, his eyes clouding with memories of his worst nightmares. He shuddered, trying to push those thoughts away.
"Sure," Irvine said, reaching up and taking the dream catcher off the wall. He tossed it to the other boy. "Keep it. I can make another."
Derrik nodded quickly, smiling as he caught it. "Thanks," he murmured, hanging it up above his bed, sighing softly.
"No problem," Irvine said. He didn't feel like collecting more supplies, so he climbed onto his charred bed. "I'm Irvine, by the way."
"Derrik," Derrik mumbled as he settled into his bed, glancing over at him and wondering what he was.
