I don't know if it fits the requirements of an English mystery - British (Scottish), but not English - but I'll nominate and you can disregard if it doesn't meet the requirements of the group:Alexander McCall Smith's "The Sunday Philosophy Club"-Isabel Dalhousie series.
I was going to suggest Kate Ross's Julian Kestrel novels, starting with Cut to the Quick, but they're not on Kindle. Judging by the prices on Amazon they actually seem to be out of print, which is a shame.
Oh, love your suggestion Tracey as it's one I've got here sitting on the shelf waiting to be read. I bought mine brand new not long ago so I don't think they're out of print.ETA: I just checked and it's readily available in paperback. It's even 10% off at Book Depository.
Oh good! Mine was a sneaky really-boss-I'm-not-on-Amazon look, and I just saw prices $11(US) and up on one edition and assumed.

I love anything by Caroline Graham. She would be a great read
Another great author to read would be Catherine Aird - A Most Contagious Game or actually any of hers. Easily available from the library and some are on nook. It seems that they have been reissued.
How about Margery Allingham? According to Amazon.co.uk some are available in print and for the Kindle.
Jean-Luke wrote: "Any suggestions for September 2012?"Broken Harbour by Tana French. Her books are set in Dublin, but I think she fits into the "English style" scope of this group. I loved her first three ("In the Woods," "The Likeness," and "Faithful Place") and have just started this new one.
Her plots are extremely "discussable."
I love Kate Ross's Julian Kestrel -- Beau Brummel solves crime LOL!That said, I'd prefer something I haven't already read....

I really like this suggestion. This is a recent publication and it is written by an author not all of us are familiar with.
Tom wrote: "I also recommend we try Death Of A Hollow Man."I love theatre-set mysteries. One way or another I'm very likely to read this.

I like Tana French. I read the Sunday Philosophy Club and didn't think it was that great. Is Midsome Murder the same as the PBS show?
I have been looking longingly at the Tana French novel. Please pick it so I have a good rationale for buying it!
