Winners! August/Sept Group Read

The Cabinet of Curiosities by Preston and Child

Creole Belle by James Lee Burke

Voting through 8/12. http://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/19...

This month we will have just one open category but the top 2 books in the voting will be the two featured books.

General rules for Group Reads

1) If your nomination wins - you will be the discussion moderator.
2) One (1) nomination only per person. Authors: no self-nominations, please.
3) Please do not repeat an author we have read in the last year. Check the bookshelves to see the authors we've read in the past year. http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh...
4) For your nomination please include Title, Author and Link (use the "add book/author" link at top of comment box).

Since we are an international group, please check to make sure the book is readily available. Is it available in paperback? Used? Your local library? The last thing we want is to nominate a great book that no one can get!

Finally, a word about series - the joy or bane of a mystery reader’s life! Please consider whether the book you are nominating would be best read by someone who has read all the previous books in the series or can be enjoyed by someone new to the series too.

Of course, it's one I don't yet own. Hey ho.

Michele Brenton (banana_the_poet) | 31 comments I would like to nominate Deadly Nevergreen by L.J. Clayton Deadly Nevergreen by Goodreads author L.J.Clayton.

It is not part of a series and I am happy to put my reputation where my mouth is (so to speak) and 100% recommend it as a real gem of a gritty crime novel that will probably be most liked by people who enjoy Minette Walters or P.D. James.

It has just been released but is available worldwide in Kindle and paperback form. It is also available to borrow from the Kindle Premium library and is currently a Goodreads Giveaway.

I am not the author but I am part of the publishing house that has published it. If it goes through as a read - I may be able to make it free to download from Kindle for a day so that members can get it without having to pay for it. We won't be making it free otherwise.

message 36: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Ferguson (ruthdfw) | 295 comments I would like to nominate Going to the Bad A Lilly Hawkins Mystery by Nora McFarland by Nora McFarland she sent me an ARC which I read during my vacation. Funny with a good mystery - it was good but not too heavy so sounds right for end of the summer.

message 37: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 04, 2012 05:31AM) (new)

Hi Ruth, I'll have to nix that one, I'm afraid. It's being published on the 7th of August and the group members will probably not be able to get hold of a copy in time. (See comment to rules in post #1)

How about nominating it next month?
