Alexis | 41 comments I just joined this group and love Jodi Picoult. House Rules is my all time favorite of her novels. I know a couple of people with Asperger's although there are some differences between these individuals and Jacob. One similarity is their special interests.

What was your favorite part of the book and why? I'd have to say my favorite was Jacob's literal interpretation of his world. His literal interpretations make me laugh out loud. My favorite example was near the beginning of the novel in which his mom asked him if he had homework. I liked how he said he wanted to write about lunch but the teacher wouldn't allow him to. Typical teenager! His response when the teacehr said lunch isn't a subject made me laugh out loud, "Well, it's not a predicate either. Shouldn't he know that?"

Looking forward to participating in more discussions!

Alexis

Jacki (jackirose) ~SPOILER ALERT~
(Maybe. I'm not sure what I'm going to write yet.)

I have to say, my favorite part was definitely the ending. As with most of her books, I love how it kept me wondering, and kind of left me to fill in my own blanks. Jodi Picoult is my favorite author for a reason. She doesn't just spell everything out for you; she lets you make your own assumptions.
I adored how she ended the book with a lot of questions still to be answered.

Alexis | 41 comments Me too. It actually took me a long time not to be so upset at the ending, but after reading her website, I understand why she ended it the way she did.

April (ajoys) House Rules was My 1st Jodi Picoult and by far my favorite of hers!

Alexis | 41 comments I'm glad it's not just me who liked House Rules. *smile* In fact, I've gotten really into forensics, thanks in no small part to this novel. Some might even consider me a forensics geek.

Dani (danibabi_x) | 7 comments House rules is definetly my favourite Jodi book so far from the few i have read. I couldn't put the book down!

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 10 comments I loved House Rules. I actually work with young adults who have autism and Asperger's, and I could see a lot of the participants in my program in Jacob. This is one of my favourites of her books.

Kaitlyn Fleming | 1 comments House Rules was around the third book of Jodi Picoults that I read. I have now finished all of her books and still consider House Rules my favourite of them all.

I remember House Rules being one of my favorites. Nineteen minutes is my top, but House Rules really opened my eyes about Autism and I have now worked with many autistic children as I'm working towards my degree to be a special education teacher.

Donna | 27 comments i love it so far too! and also loved nineteen minutes!

Mandi | 3 comments I read house rules a few months back and loved it. I just loved jacob and how he saw the world. I also read Perfect Match which was really good and now I am reading The Pact. I am hoping this book is as great as House Rules!

Alexis | 41 comments I'm also reading The Pact. You'll really like it, but you may need tissues.

As for House Rules, this was my favorite Pucoult book. Jacob's world view is so interesting. I love that quote about normal being a setting on the dryer. Jacob's literal interpretations are so funny. I love the one about his English assignment.

Alexis | 41 comments I'm 71% done, May 1998. You?

Mandi | 3 comments I've only just started. I'm at the part where Gus is leaving the line for the Metallica tickets. only a few pages in. I'm hoping to read a fair bit today while the kids are at school.
