Hi, I have been told I have so many autoimmune illnesses that its hard to know what to believe. I first had the lupus butterfly rash when I was 16. Later they told me that I have celiac, ms, Sjogern's, CFIDS and now rheumatoid arthritis. I know on my own that I have Environmental Illness which is also called Chemical Injury. I was treated for that for 6 years and it helped me more than anything else. Oops, I was also diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago. There is survey going around on CFIDS groups now as they are finding we all get diabetes after a few years!
I am always reading to learn so I can feel better.
Alice

Welcome to the group, Alice! It sounds like you've had quite an experience with autoimmune diseases. :( I hope we can learn more about ways to help you feel better!

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Denise, I would sure like to feel better.

message 9: by Julie (new)

Julie (plumcrazy22) Hello. My name is Julie. I haven't been OFFICIALLY diagnosed with anything yet, but there's definitely something. I've thought Fibromyalgia, CFS and now I'm thinking RA. It just makes you feel like you've lost your mind when symptoms come and go. I know you all understand. :)

Anyways, my mom has Fibromyalgia and Sjogern's so its important to me to compile information.

I look forward to being a part of this group.

Thanks.

Paul Cathcart (pngwd) | 1 comments Hi I'm Paul Cathcart, a full time T1 diabetic of 20 years with complications leading to nearly going blind. This is my first group and I hope you will have me on board.

Hi Julie, I also have the Sjogern's diagnosis from a rheumatologist. I think there may be a genetic link on that one but not sure. I think Dr. Starlanyl's book is somewhat helpful with the fibro. I also did read the book where you avoid all salicylates (aspirin). that seemed to initially help but then it came back. A friend with CFIDS mailed me that book. I think its by Dr. Amand or something like that. Have you read it? I know my doctor has 3 or 4 pages about his work on his web site.

Its amazing as neither of these books will come up so I can create a link. I know they are in my book list as I own them both.

Welcome Paul, thanks to your link I got back here to the group. My vision blurs with my sugar going up. There is a very good book about that too which I purchased. It has a great page on blindness.

Finally a link formed for a book. I learned about this book on a yahoo diabetes group.

Angela (angelaskell) Alice: I also have blurrier vision when I eat too much sugar. Sugar is the worst for your eyes. I can't remember why, but there's a scientific reason. Also, my nose runs, which means I am intolerant to sugar as well as lots of other foods.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I was told I am allergic to sugar. (also been told now that I am celiac) The smoke is really bothering me now. I am going to the doctor tomorrow.

Angela (loveisamystery) | 1 comments Hi everyone! I've had T1 diabetes for almost 30 years, along with thyroid issues that tend to go with this disease. Although it's a daily struggle, I try to maintain a positive attitude and keep myself mostly healthy. I believe our lifestyle has a lot to do with the issues, and the processed food that's so convenient never helps. I need constant reminders and motivation and always enjoy reading books about autoimmune disease and topics on health.

Hello everybody!! So thrilled to have come across this group. I'm looking forward to reading the other recommended books, join the discussion, and share our experiences concerning this topic. I live with MS, newly diagnosed, and soaking up as much information there is about immune diseases and treatments. Its definitely an interesting journey; happy to learn about it all with others!!

message 18: by Angela (new)

Angela (angelaskell) Hi Lissa. I've only known one other person who spelled her name the way you do. Now I know two. I use to work with her when I lived in North Carolina. Welcome to the group. Feel free to add your own discussion, book suggestions, ask questions, etc. We don't have a schedule of events or reading through this group per se. Just take it as it comes and share books that have helped us. Thanks for finding us. Angela

Valerie Horn | 1 comments My name is Valerie Horn. I have had lupus for over 50 years. My oldest daughter knew that I kept accurate accounts of my life living with lupus. She encouraged me to write this book. She told me that my book could help a lot of people. After hearing what she said, I was very eager to write my lupus story. My book can help a lot of people living with lupus or any other health obstacles.

Katie Henley | 1 comments Nice to meet you all! My name is Katie. I've been diagnosed with one autoimmune disease and luckily have been able to get myself asymptomatic by going gluten free. I'm currently in the process of reading "The Autoimmune Wellness Handbook: A DIY Guide to Living Well with Chronic Illness" - has anyone else read it? It's been very interesting and helpful so far.

Liz Wilkey | 1 comments Hello all,

I'm new here and want to introduce you to a book I just published called, Drying My Tears.

A heartwarming blend of medical mystery, intimate journal, comic survival guide, and “zenchanted” map to acceptance, this memoir recounts the story of a family’s journey within the often-invisible world of autoimmunity. The book leads the reader through the misery and mayhem encountered while one woman attempted to raise three daughters with autoimmune conditions, such as lupus, Guillain-Barre syndrome, Hashimoto's thyroidititis, and spondyloarthritis. It then details what happened when a life-altering, autoimmune disease called Sjogren's Syndrome swooped down to hit her squarely in the eyes as well. Covering topics as diverse as “Identity Theft,” “The Doctor-Patient Fit,” "Little House of Illness" and “Using Buddhist Philosophy to Deal with Chronic Illness,” this book serves as a handbook of sorts for all those who wish to understand the emotions and obstacles encountered in living with chronic illness and provides a strategy for coping for the 50 million Americans who are currently living with autoimmune diseases.

A.J. | 1 comments Hello everyone! I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as the age of 17 months, and I'm about to turn 25 so I've lived with this disease for about 23 years. It's definitely taken me on a roller coaster, but I like to think that I've managed well enough to chase my dreams and never let my diabetes define me. I've actually written and published a memoir about my struggles and triumphs titled Wrestling the Dragon: How I Fought Diabetes and Won and am using the book as a fundraiser for diabetes non-profits like the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the American Diabetes Association.

You can read more about my book and my story on my website at www.WrestlingTheDragon.com or on the book's Amazon page at https://www.amazon.com/dp/1548720143/...

Thanks for all of your support! I've found great strength and comfort among members of the diabetic community and believe that together, we can help each other get through the tough times--the ups and downs, the highs and lows--until the day that science finds a cure and we can live in a world without this--or any--dragon.
