even though i know how it turns out i'm probably going to make a handwritten list so i can check off names as they go (i did that for hunger games and catching fire and it was so fun. like a to do list. except a death list.)

Kim (callmeserena) | 15 comments I read this book last month for an assignment I had to do for Uni, and I absolutely adored it!

It's very similar to The Hunger Games but a lot more adult and violent. I thought the lead character was a little too perfect (he's good at everything! all the girls love him!) but other than that I pretty much found all the characters interesting.

Mia (mia-culpa) | 67 comments I say this every month, but I swear this month it's true, because I'm going to some hardcore reading at the beach (although it'll be the end of the month). I will READ this book.

Probably.

Wigs (wigsnatcher) | 556 comments Mod
Lol well I do the same, but I will READ this one too! I've got to wait as I'm moving this month and right now it's in a box but I'll be able to start it halfway through the month :)

message 6: by Diandra (new)

Diandra (ardnaid) | 4 comments I read this a few years ago and I liked it, but I don't know if I want to read it again. :( It's a good book but I have so much to read omg.

I think I liked it better than the movie though. And the movie was awesome.

Wigs (wigsnatcher) | 556 comments Mod
don't worry, no need to read it again, feel free to join in when the discussion picks up :)

Michelle | 45 comments I've already read this book this year. It's good, so I'll wait till about the middle of the month when most people finish it.

I don't think this book and The Hunger Games are that much alike. It's like saying 1984 and A Brave New World are alike because they're about dystopias.

My favorite early death is the crazy fangirl. Can't wait for the discussion!

message 9: by Steamy Reads (new)

Steamy Reads (steamyreads) I bought this book a few months ago, and only got a few chapters in. Maybe it's time to pick it back up again...

Sally (kanoe) | 12 comments I can't wait to hear people's reactions to this. The dramatic irony near the end of the book is amazing.

For those who are well into the book, who are you rooting for?! Mimura Shinji for me!

Akasha (akashaheartilly) | 1 comments Guess I should pick up this book again. I read it a few years back and loved it. Rather enjoyed the differences between the 3 different retellings of it, and knowing a bit more about the book, should go back and re-read it. Still reminding me, I have yet to read "The Hunger Games".

Zoe Elizabeth (Booksatlunch) (booksatlunch) | 52 comments I have this on my shelf of books from the library, so I'll be reading it soon.

Halen | 4 comments "even though i know how it turns out i'm probably going to make a handwritten list so i can check off names as they go (i did that for hunger games and catching fire and it was so fun. like a to do list. except a death list.)" = morbid and hilarious.

When did this come out vs. THE RUNNING MAN?

This came out about 15 years after the Running Man it looks like.

message 15: by Jess (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jess (jesmy777) I read about half of this Tuesday while super drugged with a migraine. It was great. I can't wait to finish. I barely remember the movie, so this is all kind of surprise, but not totally.

Christine | 4 comments I've read this book several times in the past. It is so good; definitely better than the movie (and I like the movie). I feel that the book is just a different way of telling a jr. high/high school story where you actually care about the characters instead of it feeling like Twenty Minutes with Jerks.

Jess (jesmy777) Finished a few days ago. I really enjoyed it. The last 50 pages or so especially.

I really wanna get to this. I have it right here but it just didn't happen for this month since CoK is going slower than anticipated, but I'm glad everyone who read it really liked it!

It's worth hiding out for a weekend and reading through all at once.

Jess (jesmy777) I'm watching the movie again right now and am going to need to read the book another time.

Oh I never commented back but I def read it last year. It was interesting to compare the two especially because I have seen the movie so many times. I can't tell which I liked better but I think perhaps the movie, and maybe it's because I took a liking to Kiriyama as I do with most villains but his storyline is different in the movie than in the book so I was expecting something different. Also I believe that they switched the order of the climax? I can't remember if it was the movie or the book that kept the bomb kids around longer...
