There is no group without a Harry Potter discussion.
Harry Potter, along with LOTR and Narnia, is fantasy at its very best.
But what is it exactly that makes us love it so much, that makes it such a big success?
Is it the writing, the storyline, or both?
Did you cry? (i know i did)
Who was your favourite character?
If you could be one character from Harry Potter for a day, who would you be?
What house?
Subject?

Now..discuss!

Renee Ravenclaw for me, oh and I would be Voldemort just to see what it was like to be him with his evil powers. I did cry when some of the characters died, in fact I cried in 'Into the Forest Again' in Deathly Hallows. I liked Hermione the best she's my role model and I think the reason the story was so popular is that it was easy to relate to the real world, had a really great fantasy place with all (sorry most) of the questions answered and it was something new, that had never been done before.

i cried with Dobby and Fred :( but not with Sirius, which is weird. i think i was too young the first time i read those books, so it wasn't a big hit to me.
but boy, do i need to read them again :)
I loved Hermione too, and i agree that it is, in some ways, easy to relate to. i adored the Weasley twins :)

L What makes JK Rowling's epic series such a winner that is universally loved, is the themes within her story that one can connect to regardless of age. Whether you are old or young we can all understand human emotion & the good vs evil theme throughout added to the intensity and drama.

Love, Loss, Death, Life and the everafter alongside friendship, romance, hate and jelousy are all things and emotions that we encounter at some point hence we can understand her work so clearly.

L Hamza,
I can say this with complete confidence that you will apsolutely LOVE Harry Potter & that once you begin reading book 1 (Harry Potter and the philosiphers stone) you will want to then read the entire series.

...

Both the writing (that is readable and easy to read...conversational) and the storyline that is so detailed and origional/ unique.

Of course i did cry a lot, like when Dobby died, when Sirius died and most of all when Dumbledore was killed by Severus Snape (shocked!). It was so emotive and beautiful, especially in regards to Harry who all he wants is a family.

My favourite character would have to be Harry himself as reading the books since the age of eleven, i feel as if i have been a part of his life & grown up with him. It is his personal story that brings the entire creation to life as he is the central focus of the plot as a whole.

I would probably be Madame Hooch as i would love to be able to fly a broom!

House- would have to be Slytheryn, and class would be potions! (or defence).

L I am suddenly reminded of a funny quote from film two, with the Polyjuice Potion that made me laugh...when Harry and Ron are in the company of Draco Malfoy disguised as Crabbe and Goyle.

Malfoy asks who is worse than dumbledore, and Harry (as Goyle) replies;

"...so you think there is someone worse than Dumbledore?...(Ron shaking his head madly)"Harry Potter?!"

...just a funny moment! :)
